Details:
NANCY SCOTT
Singer/Songwriter

NANCY SCOTT, has been performing in Austin for over 30 years at venues such as Emma Joes, the Cactus Cafe, the Chicago House, Chances, BookWoman, Threadgills and Artz Rib House. Out of town performances to date, include trips to many major Texas cities as well as out of state performances in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and California to name a few. Her songwriting style varies from folk to blues blended with a touch of country and rock. Her acknowledgments include top ten songwriters in the Austin Music Umbrella Songwriter''s Contest in 1983, performing in the first round picks at the 1989 Kerrville Folk Festival''s New Folk, and honorable mention for two of her songs in the 1990 Billboard Songwriters contest. Her entry in the 1995 Spree Songwriter''s Contest was included on a compilation Spree Select CD. Most recently, she attended the National Women’s Music Festival in 2004 and was selected from open mic participants to play on the Sunday Stage.
Her first recording, Both Sides of Me, released in 1987, represents a cross section of her writing styles. Serious warmth, as well as insightful humor, characterize the songs on this album. "If I were shopping for songs for established talent, these are a few names I would check out in the local music section of stores like Waterloo Records. Nancy Scott, a songwriter who has an unusually interesting voice and a relaxed, humorous stage presence, has a collection of tunes that many a popular, big name artist would give their eye teeth to own. Check out Both Sides of Me." Belle, Music City Texas, March 1992.
Her next recording, HeartPrints in Clay (Reminiscent Records), released September 1995, was produced and co-arranged by Betty Elders and carefully put together by a culmination of talented musicians, including Millie Marlow, lead guitar and harmony vocal, who has been performing with Nancy for over 10 years. All these songs, Scott originals, except one by Emily Kaitz, represent a more serious, yet ever hopeful side of Nancy''s soul. "Scott''s trademarks have always been the good-natured warmth of her stage presence and the gentle low key sadness of her mature voice and philosophical lyrics, and they all come across strongly in songs like Winter Reveals, Some People Say, Right Past Dawn and a near definitive version of (Emily) Kaitz''s Worn Out Getting Wise. Outstanding, though is Old Flings, a jazz-blues torch song that evokes a cocktail lounge in the small hours." from a Music City Texas, May 1996 review of HeartPrints in Clay .
