In October 2007 Richard Bissette received a liver transplant, and desperately needs the support of family, friends, and the community. Even with medical insurance, many of Richard’s needs are not covered, and must be paid for out of pocket. Substantial uninsured costs such as health care deductibles, co-payments, and medication costs, in addition to many things that insurance does not cover, create a substantial financial hurdle to Richard’s recovery. Fund raising is essential to the overall success of Richard’s struggle, thus the reason this CD is for sale.
Bass player. Musician. Singer. Songwriter. Friend. Those who know Richard Bissette know he’s pretty darn good at all of those things. He loves to have a good time, especially when it involves friends, music, and even Eeyore. He surrounds himself with those who share his passion for music, poker and a general good time. As one friend said, “He’s a charmer and a really good flirt, knows how to act like a gentleman, but not quite sure if he is one, if you know what I mean.”
Richard’s biggest passion is music. From drumming all day long in the circle at Eeyore’s Birthday party, playing gigs in clubs around Austin and San Antonio, to simply getting together with friends for a night of jamming at his house, music has always been integral to Richard’s being. So, for the first time, there is a collection of songs featuring Richard Bissette as bass player, lead and backing vocalist from a few of the larger bands he performed with – Kriya and F.U.R.
All net proceeds from the sale of this CD will be sent directly to the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF) in honor of Richard. NTAF is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over 20 years. All contributions are administered by NTAF exclusively for uninsured transplant related expenses. The material on this CD represents two projects that Richard was involved in, Kriya and F.U.R.. Kriya’s line up included Richard on bass and backing vocals, Chad Landry on keys, Eve Springer on lead vocals, Jason Largent on guitars and Danny Castro on drums. Kriya enjoyed success in the Austin music scene and its members went on to numerous other projects, including Copperfeel, Big Mama & the Furrballs, Cosmic Spider, Shake This Beer, F.U.R. and more. F.U.R. is a studio project that included Richard on bass and vocals, Jason Largent on guitars and Chris Landes on keys.
Take a listen and you’ll get a taste of the guy we’ve been lucky enough to know for over a decade. Liver disease may have slowed him down, but Richard’s still the one who laughs loudest, is the most passionate, and is always there with an obscure Clockwork Orange reference.
