Details:
Both English-born, John Roberts & Tony Barrand have been singing folksongs together since 1969, after they met as graduate students in Ithaca, NY. Singing in unaccompanied harmony, or with concertina or banjo, their entertaining style has delighted audiences at major festivals and venues such as Fox Hollow, Mariposa Folk Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Old Songs, Mystic Sea Music Festival, to name but a few.
"Heartoutbursts" is a word coined by the Australian pianist and composer who collected all these songs in Lincolnshire, England in the early 1900s, describing the passion which the old singers he was listening to displayed when singing these old folksongs. We have been told that even though the songs were all collected in the same geographical area, the album is an excellent "English Folksongs 101" showing the richness and variety of the tradition.
