Details:
Rogelio Mitchell Born in Colon, Panama, surrounded from childhood by the deep roots of West Indian music, Rogelio has drawn from the essential musical styles of the Caribbean islands to create a sound rich in rhythm and harmony. His unique blend of Calypso, Reggae, Soca and Jazz, creates a perfect setting for his spiritual message about the environment and humankind. At an early age-11 years old- and inspired by the carnaval, Rogelio began his musical career playing the streets of Panama city. Five years later, with his first band "The Golden Boys", Rogelio went on a tour which included, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Uruguay and other countries in Latin America. In 1966, the band settled down in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Rogelio got his first chance as a lead vocalist. He recorded a single: "Aleluya King" which was composed in memory of Martin Luther King. It was the first hit of the band. Three years later, the band split and Rogelio moved to Chile where as a soloist he received his first gold record with the LP entitled Roger Mitchell. But the political upheavals in South and Central America forced him to escape to the United Sates and settle in Santa Barbara, California, where he formed the band Flin Ting. In 1989, Flin Ting recorded the song "Womanda" for the label Rhythm Safari which appears onthe CD "Latino, Latino. Music of the street of L.A." Rogelio has opened for Ronnie Spectre, Viva Brazil and Tania Maria among others. He has participated in several music festivals such as the 1996 Santa Barbara Jazz Festival, the Distant accords awards, the Santa Barbara summer festival, the community peace festival and several benefit concerts. He bas appeared in two films: "EL extrano de pelo largo" in Argentina (1968), and recently, in the Andy Davis'' film "Steal Big, Steal Little" with Andy Garcia
