Born & rasied in East Cleveland, Ohio September 18th 19??, Monte Rok wrote his first raps in 1985 while stepping into the role of party DJ along side of Midwest DJ Legend Conrad Barkley of "Rad & Quick" . Rok stepped deep into his passion for music doing local talent shows throughout the city until 1989 when he enlisted into the U.S. Armed Forces (US NAVY SEALS). While overseas touring various parts of the world Monte Rok performed in tourist attraction night spots in Alexandria Egypt, France & Amsterdam and in 1992 while returning home from Operation Desert Storm opening up for Paula Abdul and MC Hammer amongst other national recording artist such as Yo Yo, Ice Cube & Shabba Ranks in Norfolk, VA while on leave from active duty.
In 1993 Monte Rok signed a production deal with Trevel Productions established by the late Gerald Levert along with other members of the Levert Family. His first solo "The Chocolate Man Can" was a product of the "Big Daddy Kane / Father Emcee" era and was a women''s favorite which led him to link up with local promoters Steffano & Rick of "Red Zone Productions" and
begin to Headline Hip-Hop nights Live at the Metropolis Night Club (The most popular nights spot in the city of Cleveland, Ohio during that time). In 1993 Monte Rok performed an average of about 10 live shows opening up for national recording artist Pete Rock & https://www.tradebit.comoth, EPMD, RedMan, Das EFX and Shabba Ranks, also headlining shows that showcased local artists.
At the end of 93'' Monte Rok was sentenced to 3 to 15 years in the Lancaster Correctional Institution where he served 3-1/2 years incarcerated during which time writing over 300 songs and programing about 4,000 "beat boxed" tracks into his brain. The Unconfirmed condition of his released was to re-enlist into the US Navy Seals under special conditions set by the Governor of the state & the Rear Admiral of the United States Navy and he accepted from 1996 thru 1999 cutting of his music career momentarily to defend our country in countries abroad.
In 1999 Monte Rok went on reserve status, returned home to Cleveland, Ohio and his first purchase was a Roland XP-60 keyboard and a pair of Alesis Studio Monitors where he began to release the beats pinned up in his head for so many years. By the end of 1999 Monte Rok had already produced about 400 complete music compositions.
At the turn of the century, Monte Rok hooked up with Robert Bankston CEO of Dream Xcitement, a performing arts company in the business of creating theatrical plays. This would lead him to the next level and biggest challenge thus far, taking him totally out of his element and testing his versatility. Never having had a piano lesson in his life, Monte Rok committed to the challenge and not only composed the entire musical "Changes" but performed it live behind scenes during the entire play. At the same time punching in sound effects and filling in for other actors that were not able to make certain tour dates which earned him a nomination at the Karamu Actors Guild in 2000 for "best comedic actor" his first time ever acting on stage as well as the play "Changes" recieving a best soundtrack Nomination only to fall 2nd to the performing arts genius Tyler Perry.
During the break from performing arts Monte Rok got back into his groove. Opening up a line of credit at Sam Ash Music Store and biulding a studio within one week. Unsatisfied with paying for studio time Monte Rok decided to do it all on his own, with no knowledge, no training and little help from his studio engineer buddies. Afetr about 3 months of trail and tribulations Rok had it all figured out and on January 1, 2001 he released his first LP "Fuk the https://www.tradebit.commie My Shit". A 14 song banger that shocked the like of everyone who heard it. In his words....."Man I was bustin'' my ass 18 hours a day that year doing an average of 3-5 live shows per month all over the state. It was my life. I didn''t have a job my only source of income was selling Cd''s at my shows and making sure I had a big enough box to fit enought Cd''s to pay rent and eat. For some reason I wasn''t thinking about a record deal. I had to drop hot shit if I wanted to survive, the Industry wasn''t looking at Cleveland or giving a fuck about us so, the radio station was on some payolla shit. It was my only means of survival I had to do what God gave me the ability to do and do it best."
He was doin'' that shit for about 12 months straight, selling out the trunk,
,many groups saw his ambition, his drive and his hustle and wanted to team up which lead Monte Rok to establish Undagruv Records, his very own Indie Label which housed 8 groups (Focus, Contac -n- Cashis, Ohio Playaz, Mosberg, Tee, Live Wire, & Blaze). In 2001 he dropped Planet Bud ( a compilation of Cleveland Talent) for the 4:20 Bud Fest in Columbus, Ohio. "We was always high in the sutdio and found ourselves with about 10 songs about weed at the end of the week!" Still doing shows & gaining a big following, Promoting nights at clubs, throwin'' parties feelin'' like a local celebrity, 2002 started a whole new trend on the Undergound scene. Now that his name was out there, others had to step up not only to his music (which alwasy had a story to tell and was never about flash & Bling but stuck to the old school format of "have something to talk about"), but artist had to step up their stage presence throughout the year of 2002 as he stepped out of the studio and focused on doing shows all through the northeast and midwest.
Monte Rok is a dominating force on stage and he does it alll by hiself. No side kick, no Dj, just him, the mic, a premixed instrumental with the adlibs right where he need them to be and a crowd that''s in for a show. Monte Rok commands attention on stage and he get''s it with energy, crowd participation, fun "hype" music, and an "I know your gonna love this...somethings wrong with you if you don''t" attitude.
In March of 2003 Monte Rok had an idea of throwing himself a big birthday bash in September, which would take the game yet to another level. He jumped back in the studio and in 3 months came out with "The Hoe Tales" which recived recognition and of being the world''s first X-Rated rap CD. More X-Rated than even the 2 Live Crew, Smutt Peddlers or Too Short...(say''s Jason B. - Scene Magazine - Cleveland, Ohio) and in September he hosted his 2 day event "The Players Extravaganza" which included about 15 -20 exotic dancers mingled in with live hip-hop performances from his favorite local emcees. The City begged for more but then tragedy struck. The Roland XP-60 (the beating heart of his empire)''s drive gave out and after getting it replaced found that he was unable to retrieve every single track he''d ever made (about 4,000) . Tha same year, his apartment was broken into while he was asleep causing him to take a man''s life in self-defense in which case the charges were dismissed but brought constant threats on his life day-to-day. Rok then decided to get away, clear his head and regain his focus and after almost 4 years of bouncing state to state, is re-born again. This time in Tampa, Florida but with every intent to return home as a King.
