Nigel Phillips began writing songs at the age of seven. He recorded them on a tape deck recorder. Nigel got his first guitar when he was nine. He started out taking lessons, but learned more from his brothers and friends. He taught himself to play Alabama and Willie Nelson. He enjoyed all music from the theme to Charlie Brown to Stevie Wonder.
While never taking formal training, he taught himself to play the drums, piano, harmonica, bass and the mandolin. He began writing songs at the age of 12 on his acoustic guitar. He started playing with a drummer at 16, and started experimenting with additional recordings at the same time. At 18 he formed his first band as guitarist and lead singer.
After a few years, he joined a new band as lead singer. In both bands he was instrumental in writing music and lyrics for their songs. Nigel took time away from bands and recording to focus on starting a family. He played to relax and to entertain his children. As more ideas for songs kept emerging, Nigel decided to start composing and recording again.
Nigel has learned that through his guitar and piano he can express melodies he feels. Every song that he finishes is a gift that he can give to other people.
Nigel''s first band was on a compilation CD and performed numerous shows in the San Joaquin Valley. Nigel and the bass player joined Nigel’s second band. With that band Nigel performed in Washington State at the Tomfest, down to LA and various points in between. They recorded a demo.
