THE TIME I SPEND WITH YOU showcases Brooks Williams’ high-energy sound on an up-beat recording of rootsy originals, bluesy classics, and finger-picked instrumentals. This inspiring combination of traditional and original music was collected or written by Williams while on a series of extensive tours in the United States, Canada, the UK, and Ireland from late-2006 through late-2007.

Williams plays his signature riffs on either acoustic or resonator guitars, does all the lead singing, and is joined by a stellar collection of special guests including Dave Mattacks (Richard Thompson, Rosanne Cash), Richard Gates (Suzanne Vega), Karen Tweed (The Poozies, May Monday), Dave Dick (Salamander Crossing, Northern Lights), and Gail Wade (Turning Point, The Hot Flashes), among others.

Williams honors his southern roots by covering Mississippi Fred McDowell’s classic 61 Highway (complete with stinging slide guitar lines), Ray Charles’ You Don’t Know Me, and Blind Willie McTell’s Statesboro Blues (a classic song about Williams’ birthplace, Statesboro, Georgia).

He showcases his guitar picking prowess on tunes like Johnny’s Farewell, a self-penned tribute to Williams’ friend, fiddle legend Johnny Cunningham (which also features the exquisite accordion playing of Karen Tweed), and a finger-picked version – most likely the first time it has been done that way – of the Doc Watson bluegrass classic Beaumont Rag.

Rich Tonight is a hot and sexy, groove-laden original, professes the intangible riches of love and longing. Lightning is a Travis-picking gem that chronicles Williams’ need to get back to the statue of blues legend Lightning Hopkins in the town of Crockett, Texas (home of the fabulous music venue Camp Street Café, one of Williams’ favorite music venues). The title song has the haunting refrain “the time spend with you is over much too soon, much too soon” and features acoustic Stevie Ray Vaughan-type guitar riffs.

Williams will be taking the show on the road in support of THE TIME I SPEND WITH YOU by touring throughout the United States, including prestigious summer festival appearances, two tours to the UK, and a week performing in Istanbul, Turkey.

The songs are stunning, the picking sublime, and the singing drips with buttery soul, Brooks Williams’ THE TIME I SPEND WITH YOU is rooted in the blues and is as fresh as any music you are likely to hear.
