Details:
The DG Project by Oakland guitarist, Dennis Geaney has now been released ( January 2008). Please note that the CD contains a “Digital Booklet” file on board. This file can be accessed by placing the CD in any computer and clicking on the PDF file. Here you will find information about the project including credits, lyrics and photos.
The DG Project is the brainchild of co-producers Dennis Geaney and Tony Stead. Dennis, former guitarist with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, is well-known in the S.F. Bay Area as one of its most versatile and original R&B musicians. Tony Stead is the extremely talented keyboard player with Sly and the Family Stone. An in-demand studio musician and creative arranger, producer Tony Stead contributes in countless artistic ways to the DG Project, especially with his fabulous B-3 organ playing.
This recording is an attempt to blend Dennis’ favorite types of music; funk, jazz, standards, gospel and blues into one cohesive style. The mostly original compositions and carefully chosen musicians both work towards this end. Along with the signature sound of Dennis’ guitar and Tony’s organ, the DG Project features Glenn Walters and Kami Herron Chiles on vocals and Bernard Anderson on tenor sax.

About the music:

https://www.tradebit.comisin’ (5:47) is a popcorn groove in the James Brown tradition of funky instrumentals. Bernard, as the first soloist, lets everyone know we mean business. This tune also features Mick Mestek on drums.

2. If I Could Just Have You Around (5:48) in the smooth R&B genre, features a soulful vocal by Glenn that leads to an improvised ending vamp with a gospel type interplay between voice and guitar.

3. Love and Peace (5:18) is gospel blues instrumental written by Arthur Adams.

4. With You (4:34) is a duet written specifically for Glenn and Kami with a nod towards Brooke and Dinah.

5. Danny Boy (5:55) in an organ trio style becomes a very bluesy piece that hopefully transcends funerals or St. Patrick’s Day. Drummer Omar Clay joins Dennis and Tony.

6. Church Street (5:15) is a jazzy gospel funk tune written as a fun improvising vehicle. Sly Randolph is the funky drummer.

7. You’re Worth Waiting For (4:11) is a jazz blues torch song that Glenn delivers like only he could do. This song hearkens back to the early 50’s when American standard music collided with jazz, blues and R&B.

8. NuFunk (7:09) is a funky jam with an unusual bass line played by Charles Thomas.

9. Sonora Junction (5:56) is a smooth jazz offering featuring electric piano by Tony Stead and spirited drumming by Jimmy Hobson.

10. Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans (4:04) is a guitar, tuba and drum tribute to the birthplace of jazz.
