Liste: Piano Sonata in G Major

The Sonata in G Major was composed in one single movement and displays Listes fondness for experiments in form. The composition is transparent and light in style, yet does not lack suspense due to frequent use of contrasts. The expressive use of dynamic contrasts throws light onto the emotional part of the composers personality, who found his second home in Zurich. The work was issued in 1804 as part of the series Répertoire des Clavicinistes by the editor Hans Georg Nägeli, who was Listes patron in that particular period. Not only does it represent a special piece of Swiss music history, but invites rediscovery of its unique composer.
