JoEmma

As a singer and songwriter, JoEmma displayed her musical talents since early childhood. In 2000, JoEmma was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, in Boston, Massachusetts, where she pursued a degree in Film Scoring.

Upon receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, JoEmma reaffirmed her calling to compose and sing her music for The Lord. In 2004, after repeated prayer to the Holy Spirit, JoEmma composed the music for her first album: The Seven Sacraments. In September 2006, she produced her album in both English and Spanish versions, with a very clear offering: to sing the life of divine grace bestowed through The Sacraments, and thus give witness to the love of Jesus, “taking it to all nations.”

The album, “The Seven Sacraments”, is an unprecedented musical production created not only to contribute to the artistic Catholic music genre, but also to serve as a vehicle for catechetical and evangelical outreach. As mentioned by Sr. Marguerite Broderik, DC from the Diocese of Brownsville, “We were delighted with her beautiful voice as well as the very sound Catholic doctrine presented in the melodic treatment of each sacrament. It surprised us to hear the Catechism of the Catholic Church quoted in song.” Indeed, JoEmma composed a musical piece for each sacrament and through these songs one reaffirms the Lord’s grace bestowed upon in the sacraments.

Rev. Terrence Gorski commented, “In sum, I must say that these are some of the most beautiful and thorough presentations on each of the sacraments that I have ever heard. The theology is sound and the CD could serve as an invaluable tool for use in catechetical programs or in evangelization initiatives or endeavors.” Sr. Teresita Del Nino Jesús added, “This album is an abundance of Grace turned into a musical torrent that embalms and comforts the soul.” In similar fashion, Maria del Pilar Garza, an elementary school principal noted, “I foresee that these lyrics and the beautiful moving music will take an important part in the religious curriculum for our youth.”

The album, “The Seven Sacraments”, is the first of a collection titled “Euntes Docete,” (go forth to share the word) which JoEmma upholds as her mission. The album brings forth an extraordinary balance of music, lyrics, and voice, as if it were a journey through God’s grace and immeasurable love. Stationed in Rome, Rev. Miguel Angel Villanueva mentions, “As I listen, I find a bright and youthful voice, replete of warmth and candor, as if it were an angel.” He adds, “I discovered that a very important message is being transmitted: God’s action through the sacraments of the church. What makes this evangelical rendition so special is the ability to reveal the feelings of the person who receives or is preparing to receive each sacrament: the emotions, the hope, the utter joy to encounter Jesus in each sacrament -- in some instances, as I listen I discover the meaning of each sacrament as if it were Christ himself explaining.” Rev. Jerry Frank comments, “Without doubt, these songs will leave God’s message engraved in the hearts of those who sing or hear them.”

After several years of repeated prayers and hard work, an album is born which contains the love and grace of our Lord, carefully weaved in a musical tapestry inspired by the Holy Spirit and adorned in delicate detail by the voice of its singer and songwriter, JoEmma.
