"An apostle of analog: resistors and rheostats, Rhodes pianos, the turntable, the microphone, Akai Mellotron and Moog. Mojave is all that and a bag of beats." – Igloo Magazine
A child of the eighties, Mojave grew up in South Korea listening to new wave synthpop he would hear each week on Casey Kasem''s American Top 40radio broadcasts. In fact, his first attempts at making music were remixes of songs taped from the program; using a double cassette deck his father had bought him to record his english lessons, Mojave created mashups of top pop hits. This led to a lifelong fascination with analog equipment and electronica.
His current work is at times lush and ambient, alternating with brash discord. This is music for an apocalyptic romance, beats fit for the thinking man’s dance floor, the crunch and snap and whirr of the next generation of electronic art.
“Midnight Radio Soul”, the overseas debut album from Mojave, is culled from over a decade of tracks previously released in his native South Korea, as well as two new compositions. This collection is a startling catalog of an artist so far largely unknown to western audiences, one who should soon garner a large following among electronic music enthusiasts.
