Following on the heals of his critically acclaimed album Causewayend, This life was written over the past three years. This new material blends the pride in his Scottish heritage and his infectious passion for life.
This combination has led to a wonderfully inspired CD that brilliantly reflects his heritage and roots, utilizing smatterings of his native tongue, Doric – a unique dialect spoken in North East Scotland – as well as two fabulously crafted love songs and several social commentary songs built around his strong rhythmic acoustic guitar playing, melodic vocals, and pop/folk inclinations.
This Life features 11 tremendous tunes showcasing Donn’s amazing vocals, engaging lyrics, sensitive song writing skills, and captivating stage presence.
This life houses many emotionally impactful pieces. There for you tells of the divine need to be connected to another human being in an almost spiritual nature. Speaking to the deepest desire to be safe in love but yet being the rock for the one you love, There for you is a song about commitment and support given to those you love.
Yeah Yeah is an upbeat catchy tune, reflecting Ryan’s personality to taking life as it comes. The vocal ranges in this song show, in resounding character, Donn’s ability to tell the story and push the boundaries of his own vocal ability but that of the music as well.
Donn’s song In This life has just been selected for the 2008 Music B.C. compilation CD, while There For You is the first single released off the new CD and is receiving rave reviews through media and is being played daily in rotation on SILK FM, KISS FM, and 15 other stations across B.C.
This Life is a superb encore CD to Ryan’s inaugural 2005 album, Causewayend. Causewayend, in it’s masterful lyrics and appeal, provided many opportunities for Donn including performing with 54-40, a tour of Japan and Expo 2005, and winning Male Performer of the Year 2005 at the Okanagan Music Awards.
Fueled by over a decade of performing in many varied venues, Donn has fashioned and onstage persona that simply shines. Donn is a delightful, captivating entertainer who instantly wins over crowds with his pleasing demeanour, impressive onstage aura, and masterful musicianship.
Ryan’s fine song writing skills have also been utilized by a number of organizations to capture a moment in time. Donn has written theme songs for the B.C. Disability Games and the Terry Fox Run, which became integral pieces to each event, being performed at both opening and closings.
Journalist Lori-Anne Charlton says Donn, “looks like Harry Connick Jr., sounds a bit like Blue Rodeo, and can talk like Sean Connery….”
