Details:
Guitarist James Silberstein has a new CD out entitled “Express Lane.” The CD features Eric Alexander (sax), Jim Rotondi (trumpet), Steve Davis (trombone), Kate McGarry (vocal), Anne Drummond (flute), Jill McCarron (keyboards), Harvie S (bass), Vince Cherico (drums) and Daniel Sadownick (percussion).

The CD has already received high praise from three renowned artists and a number of writers:

“A totally complete, fulfilling cd led by Jim''s amazing, masterful soloing, with an array of arrangements, all with interesting orchestrations and all complimenting his unique concept for each tune. Every player here is a giant.” Gene Bertoncini

“Express Lane is a second great recording by guitar master James Silberstein. Wonderful standards and some very beautiful originals by James and bassist Harvie S. Express Lane is a must recording for all jazz fans who also love warm, moving melodies.” Jack Wilkins

“James Silberstein is a great guitarist with something of his own to say. This cd shows his unique gifts as an improviser and composer. His playing is exciting and thoughtful and full of surprises. He has also assembled a stellar cast of musicians whose talents he utilizes to the fullest as part of his own conception. This is a great cd with much depth and many contrasts of mood and feeling.” Peter Bernstein

"A seasoned veteran on the New York jazz scene, James Silberstein is an outstanding guitarist whose approach to the instrument is equally informed by blazing bebop and alluring bossa novas. An accomplished player who emulates the warm tone and remarkably fluid linear style of a Johnny Smith, Tal Farlow or Pat Martino, he also demonstrates a capacity for rich chordal voicings, uncommon lyricism and a penchant for the contrapuntal stylings of Brazilian fingerstyle guitar masters like Baden Powell and Bola Sete. . . . The guitarist made a strong introductory statement a couple of years ago with his impressive debut, Song For Micaela. Now with Express Lane, Silberstein shows that he ranks among the finest jazz guitarists around today." -- Bill Milkowski

“Jazz guitarist James Silberstein gets down to business chop-chop! And, if the opening tune & it''s up tempo delivery doesn''t grab you......you’re comatose! Legendary bass player Harvie S lends his talents as well enhancing a project that is already on its way to acclaim & fruition. Silberstein plays with a shrewd musical intellect & charm with all that that implies. Plus, the acoustic format showcases James''s melodic, harmonic, & improvisational strengths to a note. Kudos to both James & his expert group for their confidence, technique, & overall showmanship.” George W. Carroll The Musicians'' Ombudsman

”So what is there to really say here? Killer big apple jazzbo guitarist rounds up some first call pals and sets sail for a solid session that any jazz guitar fan should love. On the money throughout with a sound and fury that echoes the greats that have come before him while adding his own colors and tones, this is simply one that should be hanging around your Ipod for those times you want a reliable date to let your ears sink into. Never less than totally satisfying.” (CAP) Chris Spector Midwest Record

James has long been a fixture on the New York jazz scene and has worked with a diverse list of artists, including among many others, Zoot Sims, Norah Jones, The Drifters, Dave Schnitter, Carter Jefferson, Jack Wilkins, Randy Johnston, Peter Leitch, Attilla Zoller, The Larry Elgart Band, and comedian Bob Hope. James’ critically acclaimed debut CD, entitled Song for Micaela, was released in July, 2004 and received extensive radio airplay throughout the US and reached in the top 20s on Jazz Week’s radio charts. James has performed at numerous jazz clubs, festivals and concerts. Presently, he performs regularly in New York City and the surrounding area.
