Details:
York Avenue is a collection of songs written in New York City during the 1990''s. I love songs and listen to everything. The first songs I heard were Broadway show tunes from South Pacific, Oklahoma, Funny Girl, Guys and Dolls, An American in Paris and many others . My parents used to play Sing Along With Mitch. Then the Beatles hit and I like everybody else wanted to be just like that. I thought Roger Miller was https://www.tradebit.com Paul Simon. And Glen https://www.tradebit.com Hank https://www.tradebit.com Domenico Modugno And Tom Lehrer. And Don McLean. And Smokey Robinson. Brian Wilson... I discovered Dylan afterward and didn''t really appreciate him until I paid attention to the songwriting. And Neil Young. After the Goldrush and Joni Mitchell''s Blue got me through my plebe year at WP where my slightly off kilter sense of adventure led me. I escaped that situation and started to explore music as a way of meeting girls and shedding my jock image. I graduated from Amherst College having spent most of my time as the Votto part of Votto Levins and Morgenthau. Ethnic names were all the rage. I took off at that point to get a real education. Moved to Boulder, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston... played in clubs all over and worked as a cab driver in LA. Always chasing a melody or some kind of song idea. Following the Sex Pistols. And The Clash. The Ramones. Always trying to catch the joy of the great and varied songs out there and put it in mine. I spent most of the 80''s pursuing music and acting. And then just music... you know how that goes. I worked a night job for quite a while and spent the days writing songs and demoing them in a little home studio. I probably wrote 200 songs during this time I called the CD York Avenue because that''s where I was living in NYC when I wrote most of the songs. The CD was recorded in Tucson in 2003. It feels good to finally unload these songs. I wanted to make an entertaining CD....foot-tapping...funny...musical...kind of a different angle on the singer songwriter thing. I hope you like it ....
