Details:
On its debut album Riot in the House of Ruin, The Beautiful Unknown delivers fresh modern rock, drunk on classic rock from the Zombies to Zeppelin. Melodic harmonies seethe over high-energy, riff-happy guitar and manic drum and bass to create a volatile fusion of old and new.

THE ALBUM
The songs in Riot in the House of Ruin are full of contradiction: bubbling under with moody images of darkness and tragedy, served with captivating melodies, and chased with a shot of irony:

Barlow and long-time collaborator Mladen wrote most of the album over the space of a year. Drummer Derek Downham''s considerable writing chops became apparent after his first creative meeting with Barlow and Mladen, which resulted in the swaggering rock-song "Feed The Hole". Guitarist Alex Bollo and Bassist J.P. Polsoni contributed their unique musical visions as TBU became that rare collective experience where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

The first single on the album is the exhilarating, high-energy track “Spinning in My Grave”. “Spinning...” is mixed by Arnold Lanni (OLP, Finger Eleven) who listened to cuts from the album and contacted the band to say: “How can I get involved?”

The reflective and idiosyncratic “Undertow,” is a lyrical favorite of the band: “Everyone’s been there at some point in their life, when they realize that they’ve made bad decisions and are in a bad place that they have to struggle to get out of,” says Barlow.

“No Getting Through,” is all about the relentless, punishing riff and the aching, strained vocals. “It’s a great live track,” says Polsoni, “the whole band came together under one big riff.”

One of TBU’s First fans was Our Lady Peace drummer Jeremy Taggart. Taggart appears on the title track: “Riot In The House Of Ruin” where he lays down a trademark muscular drumming performance.

THE PERFORMANCE
The band has a heavy tour schedule booked and is prepared to work hard. When asked what to expect the band says it’ll be raw and sweaty and loud: “They’ll say that’s a smelly band but they sure did rock live. And there were 27 of those green Christmas trees hanging in their tour van,” laughs Bolo.

“The thing is that every band from the lamest most brutal band thinks they put on a great sweaty show,” Barlow points out “But we really do!”

THE REVIEWS

If we aren’t hearing more about this absolutely brilliant band soon there’s something very wrong with the world.
Sceneandheard

As the last note rang out barely 45 minutes later, I felt flush with the exhilaration of having witnessed something great…the only thing standing between TBU and stardom would be time and a few more stages.”
Truth Explosion Magazine

With Barlow''s sultry voice, which sounds like a mix of Queens of the Stone Age''s Josh Homme and Franz Ferdinand''s Alex Kapranos, and Derek Downham''s crazed playing on both the drums and guitar, the band impressed throughout.
Klublife Magazine

”The Beautiful Unknown has been able to blend a few different styles to make a sound of their own, something that can be an elusive target for many bands. … it is difficult for me to explain exactly how that sound surfaces. Some of the songs were so powerful that I had to lower my camera just so I could just take in the whole stage all at once.” https://www.tradebit.com
