David Dely & TUMBA Y QUEMA – Music & Drums from Colombia -

Music & Drums from Colombia, with the afrocolombian spirit empowered by modern beats of rock, reggae, hip-hop and afrobeat.

Tumba y Quema has developed its own sound combining different styles and rhytms from Colombia, Caribbean countries and the African influence whithin those cultures,
using at the same time standard musical concepts such as rock , hip-hop, reggae, brazilian rhythms, afrobeat, jazz and more.

Tumba y Quema goes beyond by adding strength and richness to its groove with rhythms and music styles from other culture, that is to say, oriental patterns and traditional melodies from Hungary, India, West Africa, Australia, Spain, NorthAmerica, attempting thus to ilustrate with its music the concept of Unity in Diversity. All this, we call it TRIBALGLOBAL.

DAVID DELY & TUMBA Y QUEMA: SON MALOSO – 13 songs ranging from cumbia, porro, bullerengue, paseo vallenato, to son montuno, gahú, capoeira, conga and merengue, recorded by David Dely (lead and background vocals, guitar, bass, Native American flutes, percussion), Claudia Andrade (lead and background vocals), Shangó Dely (ethnic drums, percussion, Colombian gaita flute, background vocals), Márton Takács (didjeridoo, drum programming – he´s also the sound engineer of the recording and mixing), Bálint Kovács (solo and effect guitars), György Szappanos (bass), and Norbert Kovács (drums). There are also two guest musicians: Istvan Dely (congalegres), and Murad Abbas (trombone). David’s original paintings supply the framework and inspiration for Máté Jakab’s beautiful and stylish artwork. Mastered at Tam Tam Studio, produced by David Dely, coproduced by Shangó Dely, executive produced by Márton Takács, David Dely and Shangó Dely, published by Chamaleon Records, this album is most certainly a unique gem of the cultural globalization of our days and, more specifically, of a new COLOMBO-HUNGARIAN CONNECTION.

About the Influences:

The main influence on Tumba y Quema is MILLERO CONGO, musical group of the Dely Family (Istvan, father; Leonor, mother; and the two sons David and Shangó). The history of this group goes back to more than 30 years ago when Istvan Dely, the first conga drummer of his native Hungary, received the Congo religious title Millero Congo in Cuba in the early years of his training as a percussionist. Years later in his adoptive new homeland, Cartagena, he founded with his own family „El Cabildo de tambores Millero Congo”, the first formal percussion school and experimental roots fusion band in Colombia. Under this direct and all pervasive influence, the two boys, David and Shangó grew up to become important and singularly versatile percussionists and musicians in their home land, and later abroad: the US and Hungary. David in particular took his parents’ musical and conceptual heritage to new levels through his innate unbridled creativity. So one could say that Tumba Y Quema, first founded by David in Bogota, Colombia in 1998, then relocated to Budapest, Hungary, in 2001, is a New Generation Millero Congo.

Other influences, as the founder of the band David Dely explains:
„ ...The world today is living a time of synthesis; it is difficult to have only one influence in this world of diversity that gives the beauty of this era. To me, every sound on the street, every song I hear on the radio, every musician I meet, influences me and my music”.

If we have to brand Tumba y Quema we could say:

Afro Colombian groove
Colombian folk fusion
World roots music
Experimental fusion
Acoustic music
Afro Latin groove
