These alluring qualities can only describe one man, E. Walter Smith.
Born and reared in Shaker Heights, Ohio, E.''s relationship with music has been a never ceasing love affair. It all started while playing bass guitar with local bands in junior high school. During these years the song list ranged from Kiss to Cameo, giving a unique flavor to his style. In addition, his classmates included familiar names like, Gerald Levert, Jim Brickman, Anne Cochran, Kym Whitley (Oh, Drama, Sparks), Darryl "D Style" Swann (Macy Gray, Poetic Justice), Molly Shannon (Saturday Nite Live), Mike Ferguson (Levert, Rude Boys, Chakka Kahn, Luther Vandross, Sinbad), David Pogue, Steven Troy, and Chris Marcoux. As he began to focus on his vocal talents, his inspiration came from The Dazz Band, Cameo, Larry Graham, Al Jarreau, Journey and Kenny Loggins.
While attending the University of Akron, E. was a distinguished voice in the U of A Gospel Choir. Upon relocating to Atlanta, he was one of the original founders of the young adult gospel choir at St. Anthony''s Catholic Church and then became the cantor for the Catholic Center at The Atlanta University Complex.
With a vocal range that dances between four octaves, E. began to establish his "Pop & Soul" career by performing at various venues around the metro Atlanta area. As guest vocalist for the first Weddings for Us Bridal Expo, E. was introduced to Georgia''s entertainment community. Soon after that, he was performing at social events like the Jewish National Fund''s Kick-Off Gala for the Bill Cosby, Liza Minnelli, Marvin Hamlisch concert, The Africa House during the 1996 Olympics, and Alpha Kappa Alpha''s Cabaret, to name a few. The success of these performances found him cast as co-host for the television pilot Speak Up, Speak Out, and making the opening keynote address for the 35,000 attendees of the 1998 National AMWAY Convention.
With the online release of "I DO,'' "the quintessential wedding song of all time,"'' E. Walter Smith quickly realized that there is an evergreen market for wedding music. In fact, the United States Pastor''s Association endorsed his song, "I Do", because it speaks to the commitment of marriage and uses the wedding vow as part of the chorus. "I Do" celebrates the joy of the union between man and wife, yet maintains the sanctity of the ceremony.
A media magnet, E. has been interviewed on Chris Askew''s radio show Unplugged, a special guest on Miracles, Miracles, Miracles, hosted by television evangelist Sandi Collins and featured in many publications.
E. was recently seen performing his "soon to be classic" song of truly committed love on "Babbie''s House," hosted by Grammy Award winning gospel-recording artist Babbie Mason. You also might have seen performances during the inspirational stage play, "What a Man Wants...What a Woman Needs, The 2002 Weddings for Us Bridal Expo, WAEC LOVE86''s special Valentine''s Day Party, Black Expo (Atlanta), Lee Haney''s/KISS 104.1 FM Roots Celebration, For Sister''s Only in Charlotte or several beauty pageants. Last October Smith was in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands performing for the grand opening of the Journey Spa at The Wyndham Hotel - Sugar Bay. While there the producers of Tropical Beat and BET Jazz filmed his live performance of "I Do" for a promotional piece for a Honeymoon special for Modern Bride on BET, and promotional campaigns for the Wyndham Hotel and the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism.
As "I DO", is quickly becoming the song of choice for Atlanta brides and is creating quite a buzz throughout the national bridal industry, requests for Smith to write more wedding music serves as the inspiration for Wedding Day! Wedding Day! will be an eight-song compact disc that will provide all of the music for both classic/traditional and contemporary wedding ceremonies. Comprised of all original music and a remake of the Lord''s Prayer, Wedding Day! will revolutionize and replace the traditional songs used in weddings today.
