The ''Their Hearts Caught Fire'' project was concieved as a tribute to Trace ''Trace-Da-Space'' Warnaby , a friend and music lover. Trace passed away in December 2006.
The project takes the form of an an album of songs originally recorded byThe Dogs D''Amour one of Trace''s favourite rock bands. These songs have been rerecorded by unsigned bands and solo artists with the full permission of the original songwriter. Many of the bands and artists involved in this project were friends of Trace and others who knew her only via the internet
I first met Trace in 2001. We’d actually known each other for a year or three before this as members of the Dogs D’Amour/Tyla Yahoo group. Trace was one of the more active members. She was one of those people whose personality shone in her messages, her unique writing style and bold sense of humour winning her many friends. She was a generous soul who would do anything in her power to help like minded fans, whether that be finding sleeping/floor space for struggling up and coming bands or helping folk out who were considering selling their valued record collection when times were tough.
Inspired by her spirit and attitude during a valiant fight against Breast Cancer and supported by her friends who have already raised a lot of money I decided to try and find some way of raising money in her memory…
A few years ago I discussed with some other fans the possibility of recording our own Dogs D’Amour tribute album. This was to have been very much ‘by the fans, for the fans’ however due to lack of time, money and organisation nothing came of the idea.
A few years later and things have changed. Money is now less of an issue, as rather than producing an expensive CD it is now possible to sell an album via digital download. Also, as I no longer have delusions of playing or singing I’m free to organise the project ! We also have cause, a reason to pull this all together.
Tyla and the Dogs have provided the soundtrack to my life since I was about fifteen years old and their music has seen me through good times and bad. II know I’m not alone in this. I’ve had a lot of pleasure from the music and the company of the fans and band members themselves.
