Art of the State’s 2008 cd release, The Long Journey: Healing of Psyche, Body and Soul, Volume I, Africa was woven in small, essential increments over a period of more than five years, by the victim of a horrific drunk-driving crash. Michael Francis, jazz pianist and composer/producer, blessed beyond imagination, was able to survive the 65 m.p.h. head-on ordeal. Following the crash, he was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Regional Trauma Center with multiple life-threatening injuries. After spending agonizing weeks in the Intensive Care Unit, he was given a healing cd by a compassionate nurse on the last night prior to being transferred to the rehabilitation hospital in Roswell. From the first moment he heard the cd, he felt that the music uniquely possessed a warm, pulsating, friendly energy. Eventually, as he became familiar with it, and began to listen to it religiously during the following months, the audio frequencies evolved into rhythmic vibrations that manifested themselves as colorful visual patterns. He is convinced, beyond all doubt, that the cd played a vital role in sustaining the posiitive mental state that lead to his miraculous recovery.
During the long healing journey following the crash, he came to realize that his creative gifts could be used to help other victims of violent crime. As the original intent of composing healing music for crime victims gradually evolved, the idea became a passion to bring healing, comfort and transformation to anyone suffering physical or emotional pain for any reason whatsoever. Michael is confident that the cds he is creating can help transform the injured to a deep state of relaxed conciousness level that will positively affect psyche, body and soul and initiate the healing phenomenon.
