These 12 songs go from the ridiculous to the https://www.tradebit.comy were recorded at different times and places over the past 30 years, some in the studio, some “homemade”, and some live. One night after watching the movie "Midnight Cowboy" Valli turned to me and said "How about a song about a Midnight Couch". That seemed pretty ridiculous and then I thought about this nerdy dude we knew who always had plenty of girl friends because of his one peculiar talent and the song happened. We recorded it on a Teac 4 track with George Cebra on bass and Robert Sullivan on drums. The great sax obligato by Jim Cowger was added later. I got the idea for "Muddy Footprints" after a Dianetic session--how something in the envoirment can restimulate an old loss or pain. But the song came to me after we learned "Rainy Day People" in response to a request when we were playing at Don Drysdale''s Dugout in Orange County, Cal. We recorded it on an LP in 1978 but this later CD version is darker and more pensive. In search of a hook, I asked my youger daugher what catch phrase the kids in her circle used and she replied "You Gotta Be Out of Your Mind". We recorded this song on the same LP but again this is a lighter and less serious rendition. The double entendre "Undercover Man" was written for a spy movie spoof that never got released. "Almost Like Being Alone" is kinda how Valli and I feel about each other. "Take a Look at Where You Really Are" could be subtitled "A Serenade to a Yuppie". He has all the goodies he ever wanted but is vaguely discontented with it all."Get off the Ground" was written for my baby daughter back in the 60''s and was first recorded as a jazz instrumental with the maudlin title of "My Little Girl". The lyrics were added while flying back to Puerto Rico after a gig in https://www.tradebit.commas. A 9 minute jazz version with vocal by Valli was recorded in 1975 as a demo for a Hi Fi manufacturer. Somehow a copy found it''s way to London where it was picked up in a second hand bin for 9 pence. It became a cult classic in London jazz clubs unbeknownst to us because our names never appeared on the label--just "Bottom End". We were eventually discovered by London disc jockey Seymour Nurse and the track was recently reissued on vinyl and the first pressing immediately sold out. This is the short version recorded in a studio in LA in 1978. "Some Other Time" came to me along with a deja voux and the the dim recollection of a past life. "Are You Real" is what Valli says to me when I do something wierd like putting the salt in the refrigerator. "Floating" was written after an out of body experience. Where is your face when you haven''t got a face? "That''s Home"is the traditional longing for the old homestead song except that our real home is out there amongst the stars. It was primitively recorded on a 4 track cassette machine over dubbed many times with a Yamaha DX 7. The vocal was recorded on a VHS tape which actually had pretty decent sound back in the 80''s. These last 3 songs were originally recorded for a Space Opera, "Planet of the Seven Moons" which unfortunately never got off the ground. Our final and most recent song "In the Light" is all Valli''s idea. The melody was inspired by the theme to the movie "Samson and Delilah".
