Details:
Every BeeBrothers song is about real people, sharing whom they are, living lives that may never make headlines. And though the essentials of their lives are unique to them, the spirit of their stories could be speaking for any of us, or someone we know…everyday Heroes, Lovers and Friends.

OUR STORY
BeeBrothers began when Steve McNally found himself in a chance meeting with a fellow musician on a flight to Argentina. When their conversation touched on the topic of writing personal songs for people, Steve’s curiosity was piqued. The idea stayed with Steve as he traveled, rekindling his life-long creative fires and desire to write ‘music that matters’.

When Steve returned home he shared his experience, first with his wife, multi-media artist Barbara, then with his brother Ernie, with whom he had co-written numerous songs in the past. Their response was positive and enthusiastic. Though each of these three different people brings different skills, they share a desire to create music and art that matters, for people who care. And from this common ground BeeBrothers Music has come to be.

THE PROCESS
For Ernie, the process begins with getting to know more about the person, or people, the song will be written about. With this information he writes the story and lyrical ‘feel’ of the song.

Steve takes the lyrics and, with the musical style preferences of the people in mind, writes their song. He then produces the song, playing and recording all the instruments and vocals.

From the finished song, Barb creates the personalized CD cover that visually expresses the spirit and story with pictures, colour and design.

Barb and Steve’s children, Emma and Timothy, and Ernie’s wife Cathy complete the family theme of BeeBrothers Music. Emma and Timothy can be heard singing background and lead vocals on many of the songs, and Cathy is involved in the administration.

“Commissioning a song for myself with the BeeBrothers is one of the most fun things I''ve done for myself ... ever. Each part of the process — filling out the information form and focusing on what I value about myself; hearing the song for the first time and loving the lyrics and music and getting all teary because the song was literally all ME; then telling friends and family about the process and playing the song ... well it''s all been an eye-opener. I enjoyed it so much and was so satisfied, I commissioned a song for my husband and two dear friends — they loved the process as well and have gone on to commission songs for their friends!”
— Jennifer Bement Sass

This is a collection of Jennifer’s song and eleven others.

THE SONGS AND THE PEOPLE

1. Open Heart Song
For Jennifer Sass, life is a continuing opportunity for person-to-person connection. Her vibrant spirit revels in ‘lifting all of us up to the sky’ while recognizing the tender uncertainty that it is to be human. ‘Open Heart Song’ is Jennifer’s invitation to each of us to look inside and out, reach inside and out, and open our hearts to each other.

2. Sweet Touch
Mary and Gary Holdgrafer enjoy nothing more than settling in front of the fireplace and engaging each other in rich, thoughtful conversations. Having each survived life-threatening cancer over 10 years ago, they have both transformed their lives while deepening their relationship. They unknowingly contributed to ‘Sweet Touch’—a surprise gift from friend Wendy Huntington to honour their 35th anniversary!

3. Begin With Me
For most of his adult life, Dick Sass has given much of himself to help create a better world. By stepping fully into his own life, and choosing to begin living with the zest he wishes for others, he realized he is giving the most enduring, cherished gift of all—himself!

4. To Be Free
Studying existentialism at the Sorbonne in the 1930’s; surviving a World War II death march; a high-ranking government official in post-war Hungary; smuggling her family out during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution; Associate Professor with the Manitoba University Faculty of Medicine; internationally acclaimed speaker and author. This, and more, is the life of Maria Gomori. She has done it all for one reason—‘To Be Free’.

5. A Little Bit More
Ruth Emerson and Bob Owen are truly unique human beings, who have served as models and mentors for a caring, thriving relationship. Each wonderfully eclectic in their own right, their song reflects the depth of their loving connection…and their thankful amazement for having found each other!

6. Live It All Today
In the summer of 2006 Randy Gibbons learned he had terminal cancer. This song, rooted in Randy’s words that “every day is another opportunity to live it all” is a tribute to his memory, and the extraordinary human spirit he personified.

7. Hero, Lover, Friend
As founders of The Haven Institute, Ben Wong and Jock McKeen have lived in the public eye. And in their private life they have committed themselves to living a caring relationship that has given them a depth of connection and loving friendship they share together each day.

8. The Spirit Of Loving
Joann Peterson, friend and mentor of lyricist Ernie McNally, left this world far too soon. And before she did, this elegant, sparkling woman touched the lives of countless people through her work with individuals, families and groups, as a therapist, facilitator, author and Director of Education. This song, written after her passing, was based on a poem of Ernie’s that had been a favourite of Joann’s for many years.

9. I Heard My Life
When Andrew Bing learned he had cancer, he knew he was at the crossroads of his life. By choosing to listen to his own spirit, he began living with the passion and honesty he had denied himself for too long. He has been free of cancer symptoms for almost 10 years.

10. No Words
Marlyn Farrell yearned to tell her husband Lou everything she feels for him. Filled with loving, she struggled to find the words. For everyone who has felt the warm frustration of ‘No Words’, this song is for you, with love from Marlyn and Lou.

11. I Want To Sing
Gloria Sung envisions a world of loving connection that embraces all colours, cultures and beliefs. This song, which begins with an invitation in Mandarin for all to sing together in harmony, is her call to each of us to add our voice and make this vision a reality.

12. Love And A Smile
John and Sylvia Wilder celebrated their 50 years of marriage in the presence of family, and friends. This song, through the eyes and hearts of their children, Cathy, Tim and Margy, honours them, and the priceless contributions made by ‘moms and dads’ all over the world.
