Dick Gilroy has been a long-time well known musician, playing piano throughout Western New York State, Northern Pennsylvania, also the Binghamton, N.Y. and Washington, D.C. areas.
During this time he has had the privilege to play with some excellent and very well-known musicians - Flip Oakes, Bill Easley, Brud Bunker, Rick Simpson, Mac Sue, Kevin Barry, Tom Rizzo, Dick Fote, Dick Lees, Lee Marvin, Lloyd Howard, Charlie Ventura and Bill Rasey, among others.
A special memory and occasion for Dick, was to attend a week-long Master Piano Class at The Chautauqua Institute, given by George Shearing.
In 1995, Dick succumbed to his own desire, prompted in part by fan requests, to record. The resulting CD - "The Nearness of You", was well received, although only having had a limited marketing attempt in the Western NYS area.
Multiple fan comments such as - "we play it over and over" and "we play it all the time" (heck...Dick says even he doesn''t do that!) - and inquiries about "when are you going to record another CD?" - have recently begun to propel that process to move forward.
