ABOUT GROOV | With 25 years of musical experience under his belt, New York producer and CEO of BlockPark Media Group, Donovan "Groov" Henderson seeks to take the urban Atlanta market by storm. With the recent emergence and tremendous success of the GroovProject, his own jazz band, Groov has expanded into the southern region, taking his smooth grooves, unique sound, and piercing percussion style with him. Born into a musical family in Kingston, New York, Groov started his career as soon as his motor skills would let him- he was last in his line to play drums. All of his cousins were either singing in choir or playing an instrument and one of his uncles, Tony Lindsay, is the lead vocalist for Grammy-award winning, Carlos Santana, for over 15 years. Combining heavy bass lines and melodic overtones with a touch of smoothness and rhythm, Groov believes that music is the ultimate collaboration, and it is this belief that has brought him to the Atlanta area. Appearing with his band in several local hot-spots all-over Atlanta, Groov is one of the most-sought after independent jazz artists in the area.
His musical influences are Stevie Wonder; Herbie Hancock; Quincy Jones; Mint Condition; Lil-John Roberts(drummer); Gordon Campbell; Frank McComb.
ABOUT FRO | Music has the infinite ability to move one in any direction it wills. Each melody contains a power that can move one to tears, laughter, love, or forgiveness - one beautiful note at a time. I was born in Washington DC and I have been playing since I was 17. Some of my greatest influences are George Duke, Geoff Keezer, and Thomas Whitfield, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Robert Glasper, Joe "Flip Wilson, Hiromi and J.S Bach to name a few. This has been and still is a very difficult musical journey at times, but if I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing. My musical journey has included playing for James Bignon, Keith Brooks and New Creation some years ago to playing around town with different bands today. I have also played for several churches in the Atlanta area including Salem Bible Church, New Birth South, and Turner Chapel AME. I just started my production company in January and I am looking forward to accomplishing some major things in the future. All I want is for God''s hand to be in complete control of whatever happens now. My style can be best described as a fusion of jazz, classical, and Neo-soul. My philosophy on music is simple, "Everyday that you don''t practice is a day that someone else is getting better than you."
