There are two tracks on this CD and each one is a tribute to the victims of the Munich Air Crash on February 6th 1958 which claimed the lives of 23 people; eight of them Manchester United players.
Track one is "Flowers of Manchester" which was written anonymously in 1958 although it was later discovered that the words were written by Eric Winter. The song is performed by "Hanky Park", a Comedy/Folk Duo named after an area of old Salford, Lancashire. Pete Martin and Tony Downes are the two members of this duo and on this track Tony sings and plays guitar whilst Pete plays mandolin and harmonica.
Track two is "Fifty Years" and was written by Pete as a 50th anniversary tribute to the victims of the crash, especially the eight members of the Manchester United team who lost their lives. Pete plays two guitars, bass and harmonica on this track.
Both tracks have been played at Manchester United''s Old Trafford stadium on match days. "Flowers of Manchester" has been played for the past five years on the home game that falls closest to the anniversary of the crash. On this same anniverary of the crash, Pete has led the singing of "Flowers" under the Munich Memorial Plaque outside Old Trafford one hour before kick-off. In 2008 he also led the singing of "Fifty Years" and there were 600-700 people with many joining in.
