Sounds Like a Silver Holler adopts the same dichotomy of sound that made Black Tambourine and early Velocity Girl so great -- over a sludgy fuzz of indie-rock guitars come lovely, drawn-out melodies in a hazy female voice reminiscent of Tiger Trap. Some of Starlight Conspiracy''s instrumental work is a bit standard and rock-oriented, which keeps the band from approaching dream-pop or shoegazer greatness, but a decent sense of dynamic arrangements and the always-gorgeous vocals help a great deal. Sounds Like a Silver Holler will never live up to similar noise/pop records (with Black Tambourine being almost definitive on the American end), but it''s a solid effort nonetheless.
People who are interested in Velocity Girl should consider this download.
