Born and raised in the shadow of New York City, Jimmy Jazz and Mikey De A Soul were miserable in their suburban cells with no clear plan for escape. During turbulent times the boys turned to music as a way of self-expression. As Jimmy picked up the guitar, Mikey turned to computers as a means of programming music. The boys were natural songwriters, impressing all that were lucky enough to hear their early songs. Jimmy''s songs were dead-serious. Mikey''s songs were drop-dead funny. So when they starting a new musical project togethet, a perfect balance was found.
Together, with help from new addition Brandoning and Ryan Thornton of "Sam Champion", they created "Captain John Braves The Mighty Raritan" (released under their previous band name ''St. Sat B''). A sometimes explosive, sometimes subtle album that perfectly captures their desire for something more than diners and strip malls. Recorded on an iBook from 2005 to 2007 in various garages and bedrooms, the boys out-did themselves with a surprisingly professional sounding album. The guitars swell and roar, the drums and the bass pound, while Jimmy''s wonderfully unique voice soars over the electronic arrangements (whether or not it''s drowned in distortion). "Captain John" is a fantastic experience that lets you look into the heads of a couple of kids planning their great escape with songs that are guaranteed to stick in your head for days and days to come.
The Mighty Raritan''s live shows are always memorable. Everything on the record is kicked up a few notches. There''s dancing, singing, chaos, and elegance all rolled into one 30 to 40 minute set. The Mighty Raritan wins over onlookers at every show and have quickly become favorites at many venues. Their energy and charm is irresistible and they''re a band that you need to see live.
