Details:
This, the third release, may very well turn out to be the quintessential album from electronic artist Synth Groove. All the musical ingredients that fueled the 2006 debut album ''View From The Green Room'' as well as it''s follow-up ''Robots Are People Too'' are still in place along with a few new twists, such as synthesized guitar and a Moog synthesizer, which was added to the electronic arsenal to spice things up musically. The album features twelve new electronic songs recorded entirely by synthesizers (lots of synthesizers!).

The album gets things started right with the semi-instrumental ‘I Was A Teenage Synthesizer’ - the title paying homage to the sci-fi flicks of the 1950’s. The music is pure Synth Groove and one of the best club/dance tracks on the album. ‘Shock Waves’ is heavily synth-laden and its mid-tempo sound and style sounds like early 90’s Depeche Mode. Next comes the somewhat bizarre ‘I Hear Voices’ (the TOPY Mix), which features lots of strange voice effects. The drum beat enters in ''Time Is Ticking Backwards’ which has a really cool melody line and a dreamlike quality about it. ‘Disconnect’ is part synthpop, part rock, and all electronic. Next up is ''Me And My Machine'' which continues the alienation theme and the cold, detached vocals and steady electronic beat make it one of the standout tracks. ‘Never To Mars’ is the most techno sounding song here and well suited for the dance floor. Things slow down again for the instrumental ‘The Dream Sequence’ and pick right back up again when ‘Listen For The Robots’ kicks in next with its Kraftwerk-like metal beat and vocoder vocals. The most synthpop sounding track is ‘Mechanical Girl’ (gotta check out the lyrics) which is followed by the instrumental ‘Transport’ with lots of layered synths. The final song is the title track ‘Spirits & Angels’ and this song is a departure in the sense that it features mostly a guitar-based sound (played via synthesizer) and is a true rocker once it kicks into gear.

If you have any of the other Synth Groove albums or if you’re into electronic music, you really should check this out.

People who are interested in Kraftwerk Gary Numan Thomas Dolby should consider this download.
