“Owner of a prodigious voice, indefatigable warrior and authentic.” Rocío Macías. 30-01-2004. La Crónica de hoy.

Composer, guitarplayer, singer and sociologist born in México City. With 20 years in the music scene she has participated in several bands as Follaje (Foliage), Entenados del Enjambre (Swarms’ stepsons) where Pato from Maldita Vecindad played the guitar, and Esquina Bajan (Get off Corner). Tere Estrada combines different musical styles as blues, rock, jazz and latin music. Her way of performing the guitar is closed to Bonnie Raitt, though her singing style is near to the great jazz singers. Concerning about her lyrics she descends directly from the “rupestres”, underground mexican folkie composers from the eighties. She talks about erotism, solitude, lack of communication, urban violence and sexual harassment. Estrada studied at the Faculty of Social and Political Science at the National Autonomus University of Mexico (UNAM). She holds a B.A. in sociology and wrote a thesis entitled “Language and identity in the mexican rock 1985-1990.”
Tere has written about rock and cultur in the journals Reforma, El Nacional, and in the magazines Rock and Pop, Casa del Tiempo, Generación and Lunátika. Since 1998 Estrada has participated in the Composers Quintet Mujeres en Fuga (Runaway Women) and in the jazz trio called YAX (it means Renovation in mayan).

Press Comments:
“At the present time the music called urban rock has a good number of followers that traffic from rock to blues, or from blues to rock. Tere Estrada goes somewhere around… she has a special mixture that circulates freely among the two styles, without mufflers, more in a joyful form than in a forced way… But that playful aspect is noticed in the last track of the disc, where the voices, only the voices, establish the rhythm of the piece giving it an ironic touch besides that the lyrics seeks to maintain that irony of the disenchantment, of the sadness that is not simply sadness, but perhaps sad melancholy.” –Dionicio Munguía, fragment of the report “A disk of good letters and a book of good sound: Tere Estrada sings and writes, writes and sings.” The House of the Geraniums, State of Mexico, Atlacomulco July 7, 1999.

“The closing of the session was in charge of Tere Estrada, young singer and composer that gave a dozen of songs supported by her band that sounds well assembled. She didn''t let the public to be escaped: she began with Trip to the center of the earth, song that impregnated the assistants of a sensation of being at a mature Tere, as much as performer and artist in the scenario. –Javier Hernández Chelico. “Mayita Campos, Betsy Pecanins, Nina Galindo and Tere Estrada gave one afternoon blues in Coyoacán. La Jornada, Mexico City, January 2, 2003.
