On Tuesday, January 18th, 2005, Floodland Recordings opened its flood gates to debut the album, 2 Die Is Gain, by Toussaint. This highly-anticipated project, which is a breathtaking fusion of creative hip-hop rhythms and powerfully-penned rhymes, will not disappoint avid hip-hop fans. But even more, it will unconventionally usher those seeking fulfillment into the arms and presence of the Lord.
Under the umbrella of a talented production team, led by Floodland Recordings founder, Derek Farrior, 2 Die Is Gain humbly boasts 18 tracks featuring phenomenal cuts such as the album''s first single, the Asian/Reggae-flavored "Roll With Christ," the R&B-tinged "It''s Gotta Be Love," the infectious baby-bopper "Thank God," the thrilling Rocky-inspired "K.O.," the move-you-to-tears call to worship "We Give Glory" and the thought-provoking and foreboding "No Ordinary Day." And it would be remiss not to mention the engaging interludes, such as the comedic interaction between Toussaint and "Mr. World," portrayed by Farrior.
Toussaint began on this rap music journey in 1993 in Charlotte, NC. His father, a minister for 39 years, and along with his wife, has always instilled Christian values in him and his siblings. So while they didn''t mind Toussaint''s adoration for basketball, they didn''t take too kindly to his love for rap music, even going so far as to find his tapes and throw them away. But with basketball not working out like he had planned, Toussaint turned to rap music, which his parents detested. In the winter of 1999, during his senior year, Toussaint''s father was called to pastor a church in Birmingham, AL. Since his parents were originally from Birmingham, they made a decision to return. Toussaint did not like this at all-he was finally becoming known as a rapper in Charlotte by performing at talent shows and freestyles on local radio stations, but in the end, he had no choice.
Toussaint moved to Alabama with his family, finished school and immediately returned to Charlotte, where he stayed with his second to eldest brother. He began hanging out with friends, living totally in contrary to the Word his father preached, engaging in worldly behavior. His love for rap, however, never changed, but grew stronger with aspirations of one day making it big. Two years after living by the world''s standards of "fun," God lead Toussaint to the point of repentance. Toussaint rededicated his life to Christ and returned to Alabama, leaving his friends behind in order to seek God. Toussaint said he would not rap, but God took what Satan meant for evil and made it good!
A friend introduced Toussaint to Farrior in 2002. Toussaint said that Farrior didn''t appear interested in him so he never called back. Determined to pursue his rap career, in the winter of 2004, he contacted Farrior about purchasing some beats. Farrior took a second listen and was overwhelmed by his talent. He joined the Floodland roster two months later, then God began to mold their working relationship from there.
Toussaint now ministers to others through Gospel hip-hop in hopes that people will come to the same knowledge of Christ that he did through his music.
