Elvira grew up in a musical family. When she was 4 years old, her Father’s career as a popular singer came to an abrupt end after an auto accident left him paralyzed for the remaining 34 years of his life. This had a profound affect on Elvira’s life, giving rise to an inner search for life’s meaning and purpose.
During the early 1970’s, Elvira sang professionally. By the mid-seventies she put her music career aside as her contemplative vocation began to unfold. By the early 1980’s she turned her songwriting talents to composing songs of inspiration and prayer. During this period of her life she lived in various spiritual communities...
As her own journey unfolded, Elvira felt drawn to the idea of founding a spiritual community. In the mid 1990’s this dream was realized when she co-founded The Forest of Peace Community, which has evolved into the Sky Valley Contemplative Community; an intentional contemplative community embracing various faith traditions. It is located on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
Elvira Clare’s CD ‘Daybreak in My Soul’ has been highly acclaimed as a meaningful contribution in inspirational music. Her songs reflect the meeting point of music and the contemplative experience, where she draws the listener deep into the heart of stillness and peace. Besides performing in concert, Elvira also gives workshops and retreats, combining her music with talks on contemplative prayer and meditation.
