FLYING BLIND- Are these guys for real?

Matt the singer, guitar players Keith & Jeff, bassist Steve and drummer Scott have already overcome many challenges that face today''s young American rock bands.

From their nest in the agriculturally advanced San Joaquin Valley of sun-soaked Central California they recorded and released the album Push. The disc quickly garnered the attention of radio KOSO in Modesto and in turn the single "Smokescreen" grabbed the ears of valley listeners. The single logged 8 weeks at #1 on the highly rated station''s weekly countdown as phone lines lit up with requests for the " She only likes me when I''m high" song. The album itself ranked as high as 4th in sales in the Sacramento- Stockton- Modesto region bested only by The Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and Miss Brittney Spears. Delighted yet humiliated, the band played up and down the valley in front of crowds that grew not only in size but generation as well. Republic Records of Universal took notice and snatched them up immediately.

Upon signing in September of 2000, Push was remastered and released nationally on January 23rd, 2001 beating out all releases that week ( including J-Lo) in valley record stores. The single began to dominate stations in a very oddly diverse cross-section of American radio. For instance, on Chicago''s hard alternative powerhouse Q101, "Smokescreen" notched 23 consecutive nights at #1 on the nightly countdown. One state over in Davenport Iowa''s All Hit 98.9 proved nearly identical in success except instead of beating out Disturbed it out dueled Destiny''s Child for the top spot. It also enjoyed success in Orlando, Phoenix, Spokane, Bakersfield, Omaha and pretty much half of Texas. The band was profiled in Teen People and Rolling https://www.tradebit.com and later that summer Flying Blind''s "Smokescreen" was featured on the platinum seeking American Pie 2 soundtrack.

Flying Blind''s Push, while still a long way from platinum itself, is a treasure nonetheless. This debut album is revered among fans and pirated among the cyber savvy and has provided the band with many of the songs that fuel their fiery live performances.

"It is Super obvious in our shows that we actually enjoy playing," says Matt. "When we are up on stage we''re not trying to change the world. The audience is there to have a good time and we just help the cause."

Indeed, where these young men are from is a land of spacious skies and dirt roads but they are getting into the big city life. In the past year they have made their way from San Diego to Seattle, Phoenix to Vegas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Chicago, and of course the biggest little city in the world, Reno. They play in places and get asked back. They seem to remember names and faces and have an almost familiar ease with each new crowd they play to. They most definitely ROCK and somehow manage to slip laughter and comedy into every event they do. They appear ready to face all challenges the future holds for them. Oh yes, they are, for sure, for real.
