Like a character out of a country song, Allen Brown moved to Nashville from a tiny Texas town in an old Ford truck with a secondhand guitar and a sack full of songs, dreams, and family tradition.

Brown is the third generation country artist in his family – his grandfather Arvil Pritchett played harmonica for Ernest Tubb on the Texas circuit for years. “Ernest Tubb wanted my grandfather to come to Nashville with him, but my mother was a baby at the time, so he decided to stay in Texas with his family. My grandfather went to his grave with that unanswered question of ‘what if’? I vowed to him that I would not live with the same unanswered question.”

For Brown, the answer to that question was not an easy one. He faced three choices: join the Texas circuit of touring bands with the likes of Tommy Alverson and Rusty Weir, follow in the footsteps of many legends and unknowns before him and move to Nashville, or give up music altogether. With the support and encouragement of his family, Brown chose Nashville.

It seems a natural choice for someone who has been singing since the age of five, playing guitar since 10, and singing in front of VFW and regional Opry crowds since 12. The biggest surprise is not that Brown came to Nashville, but that it took him several years and career choices –roughstock rider, rancher, real estate agent, Army National Guard tank gunner – to embrace his true calling.

“For me, there is emotional and spiritual uplift in the power of a song. To walk out on stage and leave the crowd smiling at the end of the night is the ultimate. When I write a song, I write because there’s something I want to say and share with people.”

Influenced by country greats such as George Strait, Johnny Paycheck, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Keith Whitley and gifted with a charisma that draws in an audience, Brown’s songs pay tribute to country music’s roots while adding a modern flavor that can only be described as “Allen-tude.” His contagious onstage energy keeps the crowd involved through the last note of the night. Even the occasional gospel song becomes a sing-along without seeming irreverent or preachy, and a song about the importance of family makes a strong statement while avoiding political overtones.

Always seeking to make a difference in some way, Brown has recently founded an “Adopt a Company” program in support of troops serving overseas. The program, in conjunction with local Supplies For Soldiers efforts, will help put together care packages for US troops. The program is currently seeking other country artists to help support it. In the future, he hopes to become involved in Farm Aid, knowing firsthand the importance and hardships of the American family farm.

Far more than just another hat act, Allen Brown is the real deal. His life is a country song. Brown has recently begun working with noted Hall of Fame songwriter Tommy Barnes (Indian Outlaw, My Love), engineer Kenny Royster, and a team of Nashville veterans. With such a team behind him, one can only expect his next song to be one of success and dreams fulfilled.
