"A Bowie-esque voice performing dark altruistic Neil Young style alt-rock"

With "innovative tunes that exemplify the braggadocios-ness that is Texas music," transgender alt-rock singer-songwriter Beth Isbell "redefines ''dark'' as a plausible blend of the psychedelic and the acoustic." Lucky Boyd, My Texas Music

Beth Isbell had her first live performance in 2003. She has been playing guitar since the late 90s & has become quite proficient in that short time. Since her first public performance, Beth has learned a lot and come a long way to become a very sought after solo performer. Beth fronts psychedelic blues rock band The Dead Prophets (Dallas, TX), singing, playing guitar & writing most of the band’s songs. Beth is an accomplished and award winning songwriter in multiple genres, but her favorite songs to perform are original acoustic rock & blues pieces – dark, haunting , moody, grungy, and riveting, with an occasional humorous or political song thrown in. “I try to deliver my soul to the audience in every performance,” and folks are really beginning to notice and connect. Her voice has been described by industry professionals as having “a great David Bowie quality” and her writing & performance style as a cross between Neil Young and Tom Waits.

Live @ Blue Moon is a solo acoustic rock CD featuring 7 live tracks from transgender singer-songwriter Beth Isbell showcasing her strong songwriting & live performance skills. You can sense the nervous tension of a live performance at the outset of this CD, which quickly fades into a magical musical ride through the mind of a dark poet. There are some truly compelling moments along the way. Into Down-All I Can Do seamlessly weaves together two great songs into a dark & haunting masterpiece. I Have a Dream rages against societal apathy toward both our planet & our poor. Misunderstood is a beautiful, but hair-raising trilogy about child abuse and incest. It is this type of truly gripping writing and performance that makes Isbell stand out from the pack. To lighten the mood, Ms. Isbell then includes a rocking up-tempo acoustic performance of her Dead Prophets’ classic Camille the little filthy skank. Mountain Wind showcases Isbell’s guitar playing prowess and melds into a nicely sung version of Led Zeppelin’s Thank You, a tribute reminiscent of the original. The final Blue Moon track features a monster solo performance of Isbell’s original instrumental composition Katrina, which has the style and intensity of her heroes and the acoustic firepower to match. The CD closes with a musical after-dinner mint – a pleasant, but intense, performance of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here – recorded at another location, allowing your mind to wind down and absorb the transcendental live performance you just experienced. You might love this CD!

CD REVIEW: “The opening mostly-instrumental track sets the tone for this seven-cut release. Featuring B. Isbell’s guitar work, the cut has a dichotomous message in its acting as a vessel for reflection and the lyrics conveying an internal frustration. Isbell offers a collection of reflective tunes from experience, observation, and reprisal of traditional thinking. Isbell forges ahead unafraid, through a field of ponderings that give each listener an opportunity for self examination. Isbell approaches the softer side with “Mountain Wind.” This is a live project that redefines ‘dark’ as a plausible blend of the psychedelic and the acoustic. Look for the new twists on old classics and take a peek inside the evolution of acoustic rock and blues with a tolerant undertone and a true passion for altruism.” Lucky Boyd, My Texas Music
