Details:
Lou Ephire: Hello Burgexmulo

BurgexMulo: Hello… Miss ?

LE: Miss Lou Ephire

BM: Lou et Fyre … bizarre name, I don’t know that one

LE: I’m here today to allow your fans to get to know you better, so first of all let me thank you for being here

BM: The pleasure is all mine

LE: You have produced your first solo instrumental album, what were you doing artistically before this album?

BM: Before this album I was essentially a group musician, but having always written, composed and arranged, I guess it was always in the making. The beginning of the album is a reference to my first group. The guitarist of this group gave us the first impetus and formed the band from a group of friends around him, although he never played. His studies took him away and we lost our leader before he ever started. The first track (‘Dans les allées du L’ – ‘in the alleys of L’) is so named because he ended a letter in response to the dispatch of our first recording: “The cassette has been copied many a time, continue, continue and you won’t get lost in the alleys of L…” - L being the initial of the name of the group…(long past!).

At the same time, I joined a big band, another kind of music, another environment. It was during rehearsals of this band that I met a guitarist and a drummer with whom I got together with later, a career started in February and ended in June of the same year! With an appearance at the Bourges Spring Festival during that time… I continued to work as a duo with the singer of that group and we signed for two titles with an independent label. I worked then for Donna Sarah, Axel Page and others.

After a long break, I decided to put together some of the many ideas that I had accumulated and made this album.

LE: Why did you choose a album cover of such… dazzling colours?

BM: The cover is very much inspired by comic annual by Placid and Muzo Poche (n° 49). I adore these little books that I read as a child during the long summer holidays. I learnt to read with comic strips, it was the only reading I could absorb. No doubt it’s because of that that I do instrumentals… (laughs). Lyrics in the style of “Plop! Plop!” or “No Plop! No Plop! Would certainly be interesting!
The titles of other tracks on the album are puns relating to these comics. I adapted the games to my own context as a mono-maniac bassist.
A friend who is a graphic designer put my ideas onto paper and I like the results.

LE: What are your current projects? A second album?

BM: Yes. I’m working on several tracks simultaneously. I’ll work in the same way I always do – bit of a melody or bass line onto which I add other tracks one at a time, but always keeping in mind the depth of sound and the mix from the beginning… But before the second album there will be a video clip produced with a young film animator. He works with plasticine models, photographing and changing the models frame by frame, with astonishing results. We have chosen the track “BossaMulo” for the music. The production started in March 2008, the video will be available on my website when it’s released.

BM: Can I just ask you a question?

LE: Yes

BM: Which publication do you work for?

LE: BurgexMulo Parade

BM: BurgexMulo…. Bizarre name, I’ve never heard of it

LE: Goodbye and thank you once again for answering my questions

BM: No probs
