Macdonald’s heartfelt approach is original in essence with endearing memorable and catchy choruses and his signature lyrical improvised piano solos compliment the character of each composition.
It opens with “Beyond the New Dawn”, an early morning journey with acoustic guitar, pattern electronica and filtered percussion with a piano melody and chorus inspiring hope and resurrection. Followed by the emotional “Echoes of a Tender Heart”, acoustic guitar, lush pads and atmospheric electronica surround a gorgeous single line piano melody with a heartfelt chorus. Next is “The Empress Golden Rose”, pattern electronica, spacious vocal pads and a Chinese Erhu violin compliment the enchanting piano melody that evolves into a beautiful chorus.
The collection continues with the romantic and moody “Sighs of Simpler Times”, a reflective piano melody with an encouraging chorus and a thoughtful bridge bathed in delayed and sustained electronica. The pace picks up with the adventurous “Racing the Clouds”. A kaleidoscope of harp patterns, electronica and a pulsing rhythmic groove weave an accompaniment for the haunting piano melody and chorus.
