"A Child''s Smile" is the result of a ''brilliant idea'' I had last summer while returning with my parents from their annual "River Edge Gang" reunion. One of my father''s Fordham Prep School (FP) friends, who is now a Medical School Dean, knows I currently attend his alma mater, and that I am planning on becoming a surgeon some day. For this reason, he shared a story with me about a recent chance encounter he had with a FP classmate of his, Bill Magee.
Dr. Magee is now a world-renowned plastic surgeon heading a philanthropic mission to surgically correct the facial deformities of children with cleft lips and palates. His non-profit organization, Operation Smile, supports volunteer surgeons in this mission throughout the world. At the cost of a mere $240.00, these gifted surgeons transform, in 45 minutes, a child''s cleft lip into a beautiful smile!
About that ''brilliant idea'' that popped into my head last summer.... I tried to think of a way to make money to lend support to Operation Smile. I finally came up with the idea of creating a song to sell! Having never done this before, it did get a little tricky; but, six weeks later, I had composed "A Child''s Smile" and recorded it at The Big Twig recording studio in upstate New York.
Just after school started, the song was finalized, and I sent a copy to Dr. Magee. CD Baby has graciously offered to distribute my song, and a portion of the profits are promised to benefit Operation Smile.
