Details:
I-C-E - the Improvising Clarinet Ensemble was originally derived from the improbable number of clarinet players who attend Eddie Prevost''s workshop at the Welsh Chapel, Southwark, London. All of its members are active with other bands and projects within the London improvisation scene.

Sandy Kindness (bass clarinet, contra-alto clarinet) After early rock and funk bands, he played sax and contributed compositions to the 1980s out jazz collective ''THE FEW''. Later he took up bass clarinet, becoming increasingly committed to free improvisation. He has played with a number of musicians on the London scene, including Eddie Prévost, Lol Coxhill, John Edwards, Ivor Kallin, Hugh Metcalfe et al. Appears on the Matchless compilation ''7th May 2001: Freedom of the city'' in the Romuald Wadych project. He has also made some multi-media collaborations with dance and performance artists. Since 2003 has done many gigs with the trio ‘Kindness May Lash’ in the company of Dominic Lash and Paul May.

Noel Taylor, alto Noel Taylor (soprano and alto clarinet) brought together the members of I-C-E after meeting several of them at the improvisation workshops run by Eddie Prevost. In the 1980''s he worked with video and performance, exhibiting in England and abroad. He played clarinet with ‘Sheep in Fog’ and later was part of ‘The Mosquitoes’, with John Bisset. In addition to I-C-E he appears regularly with Steve Rushton and Sebastian Sterkowowicz in ‘Uncle Rabbit’, twice playing live on Resonance 104.4 fm. He is also collaborating in an ad hoc trio with Oli Mayne and James O’ Sullivan.

Jerry Wigens, on Bb clarinet, is a composer and committed improviser. He studied ‘Contemporary Music‘ at Goldsmiths College, where he has also taught improvisation. He plays regularly with the ‘9’ which features Eddie Prevost and 8 other selected musicians. He also plays guitar with ‘Astrakhan’ and has recorded and performed with a wide range of performers, such as Stefano Tedesco, Oli Mayne, Armin Sturm and many others.

Tara Stuckey, normally using an A clarinet, studied clarinet at music college. She plays regularly with the ‘9’, the ‘Slow Quartet’ and as a duo with Samantha Rebello. She and Jerry Wigens both played in the 2007 Freedom of the City Festival, which was featured on BBC Radio 3 ‘Jazz on 3’.

Rick Jensen, on alto and Bb clarinets, recorded four albums of experimental music in New Zealand under the umbrella of postmoderncore, before moving to London. His ‘Rick Jensen Trio’ has Phil Somervell, Colin Somervell and Vasilis Sarikis as contibutors.

I-C-E perform whenever the opportunity arises, recently featuring with the Evan Parker Trio at the Bowman Brothers New Year’s Festival of Sound, and are now embarking on a dance/improv collaboration with dancer Geoffery Unkovich.
