Les Ingenues jazz quartet came together as a collaboration of four, very different musicians.

Beginning with Lisa Broderick on tenor sax .....

Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lisa Broderick began playing saxophone at the age of 6. She played intermittently throughout high school until attending and graduating from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. After earning her Masters in Business from Duke University Fuqua School, she worked in business for15 years. Lisa recently began performing again after a many-year absence. Lisa is a melodic performer who yearns to sing through her instrument. She and Roy Assaf recently played together in May, 2005 with the Wes Anderson Trio at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola located at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

And then Lisa and Roy met ....

Born in Israel in 1982, pianist Roy Assaf started his formal classical training at the Tel Aviv Conservatory at the age of eight. In 1999, he graduated from the three-year jazz program at Thelma Yellin – Israel’s premier high school of the arts – and won the international Red Sea Jazz Festival competition for young musicians. At that time, he was studying the jazz language with his great mentor, Opher Brayer. Mr. Assaf was a prominent local player in Israel and a member of the Tel Aviv Jazz Big Band. He led his own jazz quintet, performed in the International Jazz Blues and Videotape Festival, and was recorded live by Israel Broadcasting Authority and by national radio stations.

Most recently, in the summer of 2007, pianist Roy Assaf was invited to play with The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band and share the stage with such jazz legends as Jimmy Heath, James Moody, Slide Hampton, Roy Hargrove, Antonio Hart and many more. Roy joined them on a European tour consisting of 9 countries, as well as for additional performances in Canada, Puerto Rico, and one week at the famed Blue Note in New York City.

Roy has been touring in Costa Rica, Japan and Europe in the past two years and performed with George Garzone, Claudio Roditi, Steve Davis, T.S. Monk, John Lee, Dave Samuels, Giovanni Hidalgo and many more. He received the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute Award, the 30th Downbeat Student Music Award, the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Prize, 1st place of the International Red Sea Jazz Festival’s Jazz Groups Competition, 2nd place of the Charlie Palmieri Memorial piano Competition, and The 2008 ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award.

Roy Assaf graduated from Berklee college of Music in May 2005 where he had the privilege to study with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, and Joanne Brackeen. In September 2006 he started his Master Degree at Manhattan School of Music where he studies individually with Kenny Barron
And Jason Moran.

Adding the talents of another woman to the group ....

Linda began playing piano at four, then classical bassoon in high-school. At fifteen, Linda began playing the electric bass and in 2002 she was accepted into the jazz program at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and started taking lessons on double-bass.

Linda was one of six chosen to compete for the prestigious James Morrison Scholarship in 2003. In 2004 Linda was the winner of the IAJE Sisters in Jazz collegiate competition where she was one of five females selected to form a quintet and perform at the IAJE Convention in Manhattan.

She has also completed an invitation-only honours program at W.A.A.P.A, Edith Cowan University graduating with first class honours and the award for the best graduation recital. Her honours thesis is titled, "A New Approach to Rhythmic Bass Improvisation: an exploration of rhythmic devices used by Dave Holland and the rhythmic aspects of North Indian Classical Music."

In April 2006 Linda was invited to attend the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program in Washington DC.

She is now in her first year of her Masters Degree at the Manhattan School of Music studying with Jay Anderson and John Riley, and is an active bassist and composer of small group and big-band music.

And rounding out the group with Nick on drums ...

Nick Falk is from Portland, Maine and graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in performance. He has studied with Bob Gulloti, Jamey Haddad, Dave Samuels, Ian Froman, and Hal Crook. He has performed with George Garzone, Hal Crook, John Lockwood, Frank Tiberi, Vardan Ovespian, Eli Digibri, and has performed all over the world, including Equador, Japan, Korea, and Portugal. He has also performed in venues such as the Blue Note New York and at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California.
