Details:
Siggy is an independent rock band from Los Angeles, California. We play raw, passionate music in the vein of Television, The Velvet Underground and The White Stripes.
While music is an increasing focus for Siggy, we live nuanced, disparate lives. Within this four-piece you’ll find eight master’s degrees, three PhD’s and an absurd number of scholarly publications. We attack our day jobs as fervently as our music: Siggy is comprised of a neuropsychologist, an expert on marginalized youth, a behavioral scientist/executive for an Internet relationship site, and an analytic psychotherapist. Lead singer Galen Buckwalter, in a wheelchair since 16, stars in the award-winning PBS documentary Rolling, aggressively taking on the medical establishment from the New England Journal to NPR. And our first music video just hit YouTube (search: siggytherockband) . . . Freud’s couch never rocked so hard.
Reviews for previous Siggy albums:
Harlow’s Girl, 1999
“With thin, melodic guitars covering a driving rhythm section, Siggy isn’t out to prove its tough-guy credibility. Through the sheer power in its music, coupled with lead singer Galen Buckwalter’s eccentric delivery - a glorious tribute to the legacy of Richard Hell, Siggy hints at an unhinged desperation laying inches below its surface.” https://www.tradebit.com
R (EP), 2001
“Whether the band mixes waterfalls of acoustic strumming with electric leads to get a no-frills, full-bodied style, or lets its guitar jangle with Tom Verlaine intensity, Siggy doesn’t need to hide behind curtains of distortion and peals of cut-time drums. It’s certainly not the flashiest act on the block, but there’s a respect for hard-working New York proto-punk bands on R that many a young nipper could learn from.” – https://www.tradebit.com
Cryptophasia, 2004
“The music is approached in an understated fashion, no need to blare chords or blast the ears with a wall of distortion…but the band members are sharp – brain-wise and musically – and the disc is an assault of emotional brutality and beauty. Singer Galen Buckwalter''s voice wavers with pain and uncertainty, filled with angst like that of some of the more notable and offbeat singers rock has seen…” - NY Rock Street Beat
