Catchy enough to be pop-punk (a la Descendents, Queers, Lillingtons) but nihilistic and irreverent like The Dead Boys, Turbonegro or early Supersuckers, Atlanta''s Trophy Wives are a rarity in a punk scene dominated by self-consciously retro and campy garage bands and self-consciously emotional and screechy "hardcore" and emo bands. The Trophy Wives aren''t overtly political (although a quick scan of some of their song titles show they don''t care too much for right-wing rednecks). They''re not gimmicky (though drummer Will Brown has occasionally donned a sailor''s uniform onstage while drunk). They''re not cute, sensitive, ironic, or geek-chic. Leave that to the college radio darlings. The Trophy Wives are content to kick-out the 3-chord jams with volume and hooks to spare. Bonus style points: Every member is college-educated and cavity-free (...I think).
