Details:
Possibly one of the most talented, yet under-appreciated of all International metal acts to come out of Canada in the 1980’s, was the band “White Wolf”.

White Wolf was formed in 1980 when Don Wolf, then going by his legal name Don Wilk, together with bassist Les Schwartz and drummer Loris Bolzon met up with guitarists Cam MacLeod and Rick Nelson while on tour through Edmonton Alberta, Canada.

With their love of great Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, they soon began rehearsing in Toronto, Canada, and playing select dates in the Central and Eastern parts of Canada, then moving back to Edmonton, to do the local bar scene in and around the area as "Warrior".

Fans would form long line-ups just to see this new hot band perform!

They were blown away by the cover material played by the band (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Scorpions and more….) and the new sound of the original material that songwriters Don Wolf (Wilk) and Cam MacLeod were writing.

It wasn''t long before they were touring the western provinces extensively.

When the band started recording their demo material, they received offers from 6 record companies, including Heavy Metal Records and Music For Nations, two prestigious Metal only labels.

Courted on all sides, the band decided to join the rapidly growing RCA Hard Rock Pack, and were signed to a deal with RCA in 1984 as "White Wolf".

Their debut LP, STANDING ALONE, was released in 1984 to rave reviews.

Two producers were utilized for the project, Danny Lowe (Painter) and Jack Richardson (most notable for his work with The Guess Who, Bob Seger and Alice Cooper) each bringing to the table their own specialized talents and experiences.

Appearances on local TV variety shows helped spread the word, following their debut''s release.

Also geared for public relations, the label and management had two different covers printed for the LP.

All the exposure helped White Wolf tour extensively into the States as well as eastern Canada.

Though nothing was really geared for AM radio play, both Canadian and American FM stations began playing "Shadows In The Night", with its anthemic aura.

Two versions of the song “Shadows In The Night” were filmed for video, and were featured and rotated on many Hard Rock/Heavy Metal stations such as Much Music in Canada and MTV in the USA.

Other highly under-rated tracks included "Night Rider", the thought-provoking "What The War Will Bring", the driving force of "Metal Thunder" and the title-track, "Standing Alone", released as the band''s second single.

The LP was well received in many countries in Europe and especially Japan.

Over a quarter of a million copies of the debut were sold worldwide - In fact RCA New York had the band go in and re-record the songs “Standing Alone” and “Metal Thunder” for a special limited edition 12” release.

This has gone on to become a collector’s item for many fans.

The group''s reputation for their musicianship, as well as their live energy landed them gigs from coast to coast, both headlining and opening for the likes of fellow Canadians Lee Aaron and Kick Axe, and Australia''s Angel City during the Texas leg of their US tour which went lasted until the end of spring, https://www.tradebit.comn it was time for White Wolf to start thinking about a follow up to “Standing Alone”!

After the success of the first album “Standing Alone” and the tour, RCA wanted to make the next White Wolf release even more of a hit. Don and Cam went into months of writing for the new record and came up with the songs for the record by August of 1985. They even did a remake of the song “Just Like An Arrow”, originally written by Tony Clarkin of the band Magnum, for a potential single release.

The band flew to Holland to record their second album at Bullet Sound Studios under the guise of Shell Schelleikens, whose biggest credentials included working with Golden https://www.tradebit.comy spent 2 months recording between October and December of 1985 and the result was “ENDANGERED SPECIES”, a 10 song combination of pure Melodic Hard Rock. Released in 1986, nearly two years later - another well thought-out, crisp and energized Metal Masterpiece.

With the lead off track "Time Waits For No One", Don Wolf''s (Wilk), powerful vocal prowess again shone. The sheer dominance of the twin guitar attack of Cam MacLeod and Rick Nelson, peaked in "Snake Charmer", while other noteworthy songs included the enormous sound of “Holding Back”, the ballad “Cryin’ To The Wind” and the haunting "All Alone".

A video for the song “She” was released on many Hard Rock/Heavy Metal video shows to rave reviews. The album was sitting at #114 with a Bullet on the Billboard charts, and was on the way to breaking the Top 100, when BMG Records bought RCA.

Sensing a lack of support from the new label, the band chose to leave RCA/BMG after the end of the North American tour in ''87.

They carried on into the next year, but eventually called it quits in the spring of 1988.

Both Classic White Wolf recordings (“Standing Alone” and “Endangered Species”) were remastered and re-released on CD in Japan by RCA Victor Japan, May 1996 to rave reviews and went on to sell over 8,000 copies each!

The band members went their separate ways.

Don Wolf (Wilk), went on to a number of other projects, including “Point Of Power”, “Project X”, and his solo album called Don Wolf - "Making Changes" in 1998.

He has also worked with various producers including Bruce Fairbairn, adding backing vocals on the Multi-Platinum release "Flesh & Blood", by rock group "Poison".

In 2004 his vocals resurfaced on a project called Bitter Suite, featuring a host of other musicians, including George Criston of Kick Axe.

**** Now we come to today where Don has reunited with lead guitarist and co writer Cam MacLeod, and they have with the help of Escape Music''s Khalil Turk recorded and released a BRAND NEW "White Wolf" project!

This was released in Europe and the UK and also Japan in the summer of 2007.

This is titled “Victim Of The Spotlight”.
