Freddie Stevenson releases his debut recording ''EP'' on June 1st. Recorded acoustically, ''EP'' demonstrates Freddie Stevenson''s songwriting power and hints deliciously at what is to come.
Following a string of dangerously well received LA shows in March 2005, Scottish singer-songwriter Freddie Stevenson unleashes the first taste of his songwriting in this debut EP. Freddie is joined by John Perry playing lead guitar. As well as being a noted music author, John is known for playing lead with the 1970s rockers The Only Ones whose hit Another Girl, Another Planet is still cited by the likes of R.E.M.''s Peter Buck, Blink 182''s Travis Barker and Belle and Sebastian''s Stuart Murdoch as a significant landmark in their musical development.
Recorded live in his rehearsal space in North London over the unpleasant wintery nights, ''EP'' catapults Freddie''s delicate and moving songs to the forefront of any iPod playlist. When asked to describe the EP, Freddie said,
''It sounds like what we would sound like live if only you were listening and we didn''t make too many mistakes. Spacious arrangements, built to suggest possibilities as much as a finished product, but hopefully both. Played backwards you can hear guitarist John Perry spout passages of Blake through an arse trumpet, an instrument we designed specifically for that purpose.''
With his US shows having been attended by a who''s who of music''s aristocracy, from Tommy Stinson (Guns ''N'' Roses, The Replacements) to Spooner Oldham (Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Percy Sledge), Freddie returns home after a four month exodus to take up his quest to play every village and town across the UK to promote the release of ''EP'', beginning with a show at The Social, W1 alongside Dot Allison on May 23rd and with a full tour to be announced in due course.
Songs for ''EP'', like ''Sunday Morning Girl'' and ''God Knows'', were chosen out of the raft of possibles to give fans a chance to hear Freddie as you''ll find him today - stripped down and raw. The resulting songs weave an intricate tapestry of sounds that invoke memories of the classic songwriters and hint teasingly at what is to come on Freddie''s full length debut which will see him playing alongside a full band including Brady Blade (Bob Dylan, Steve Earle). The as yet untitled LP is due for release in early 2006. In the meantime, be sure to allow ''EP'' into that part of your summer listening that makes you yearn for balmy evenings, a cooling drink and nothing to think about but pure hedonism lying ahead of you.
