MP3 Friction Farm - Believe

Singer-songwriters combine catchy hook-filled folk rock with lyrics that deliver a serious message but still leave room for the listener to add their own perspective

11 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, ROCK: Acoustic

Details:
Friction Farm is guitarist/vocalist Aidan Quinn and bassist/vocalist Christine Stay. Their strong musicianship and keen songwriting sensibilities make Friction Farm instantly likeable.

"...infectiously hummable tunes..." New Times

With just two people and two instruments, they create a lot of sound and a diverse repertoire. So widely accessible that they''ve been asked to open for a range of artists from rockers Bad Company, to the undefineable Tori Amos, to the jazzy Rippingtons. Friction Farm is right at home with all of them.

Friction Farm''s sound is built around Aidan''s the big jangly guitar strum. He''ll hypnotize your feet into tapping along, then snap you out of it with some intricate flat picking.

"Aidan Quinn''s skillful lead guitar licks gave Friction Farm an edge of rock..." Ink 19

Christine has a vocal and lyrical intensity that conveys a wide range of expression, intimate and vulnerable in one song, powerful and angst ridden in the next. With Aidan''s vocal thrown in the mix they recall classic 60''s harmonies.

"Whether singing at a near whisper or belting for the rafters, her vocal confidence and melodic tone never waiver." City Link Magazine

While the singer-songwriters are often described as contemporary folk, Friction Farm''s got some rock and roll roots. They''re a dynamic duo on stage, they might tell you story that invites you into the depths of a meaningful song and then stomp their feet on the stage until you want to jump up and dance and forget it all.

"...a knack for writing catchy hook-filled songs and delivering them with unbridled energy..." Palm Beach Post

Fast Forward
In just two short years as a duo, Friction Farm has toured the east coast a few times playing colleges and clubs on the strength of a short live CD and a whole lot of nerve. They have found a supportive base in South Florida - performing at a variety of local venues from listening rooms like the Main Street Café, to great clubs like the Bamboo Room, plus coffeehouses, bars, house concerts, even grade schools. They''ve been invited to play festivals like SunFest and the South Florida Folk Festival.

Reverse
He''s from Berkeley, she''s from Woodstock. They met in college where he was a guitar playing geologist and she was an enginneer. After graduating, Stay began to learn to play bass just to join in with Quinn''s hobby but discovered a love for performing and for writing. They started as a rock band and found success pretty easily. The band released two CDs, attracted solid management, toured, and showcased. Ultimately the lure of writing, and the good advice of friends led to the acoustic duo format.

Play
Friction Farm''s first acoustic CD "Believe" features the duo on eleven tracks with a few special guests including Florida folk hero Rod MacDonald and North Carolina songwriter/violinist Tracy Feldman. Every Friction Farm CD seems to have an underlying theme. If this one does, it is certainly hope. The opening cut "Believe" is the most direct harbinger of hope and "Washing Machine" perhaps the least obvious. In between, "Louisianna" finds hope in the amazing capacity of ordinary people, "Sit At My Table" delivers it in the form of friendship and "Whole Heart Broken" in the experience of life itself.
A new CD and some hope - exciting stuff for Friction Farm.
