A/K/RONA is the artistic pseudonym of a 45 year-old Colombian artist who is rapidly gaining international attention. When asked about his unusual name and public persona, A/K/RONA explains, “Kronos means ‘time’, and the prefix ‘A’ means ‘without’. That’s why my character is a timeless being, with no place and no country.”
A multi-talented individual who was educated in his native Colombia and the United States, he taught basic design at UNITEC in Bogota from 1988-1994, and acquired his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Combining his Knowledge of mathematics, chemistry and visual communication with his talents as an accomplished musician and artist, A/K/RONA is producing images that are rapidly establishing his artistic viability.
The content of A/K/RONA’s work come from his wish to convey hope to a planet he sees as overrun by media images of gratuitous violence. He describes his art as “rational and modern, figurative and modular”, involving a mathematical and artistic convergence in which he graphically depicts the elements of daily life: ribbons, bars, lines with knots, exponential functions of natural numbers and the mathematical formulae which comprise the fabric of our existence on earth.
THE AUTHOR
Juan Carlos Cárdenas (A/K/RONA) was born in Medellín, Colombia on December 15, 1962. He studied at the Anglo American School in Bogota and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He complemented his studies with Industrial Chemistry and a master in business administration in Bogota.
Attended many courses in several aspects of science, like Physics, Astronomy, Geology, Archeology and Psychology and also seminars and workshops in Modern Management, Sales Theory, Oral Expression, Marketing, Merchandising, Personal Control and Peoples Direction.
He has also touched the ethereal fields of the arts, with studies in Music and Piano, performing as the keyboard player of his own band “MALLKU” which with has released four albums with own compositions of Contemporary South American Music. Also as a painter and self-taught sculptor with own creations of big format, which have been shown in different countries of America and Europe, and periodically exhibited at the internet site of the well known auction house of New York Sotheby’s (https://www.tradebit.com). As an impulsive writer, he has produced a series of literary works that comprise poetry, essays, and short stories.
