Carol Rossio, recording artist and performer, has been a shining light on the Northwest music scene since the release of her first album, 1997’s French Mix. Rossio’s vocal styling conjures visions of a perfect Parisian night, filled with the joys and sadness of romance. A singer who makes every song her own, Rossio brings taste and charm to every rendition, wringing every nuance from both classic jazz and pop songs. Working in an intimate combo setting, Rossio’s live shows enchant audiences with her range and charisma.
Rossio has teamed with the Pacific Northwest''s most renowned musical artist, Tom Grant, for both a recording project and performances. Rossio’s performing credits include opening for GRAMMY Award-winning Latin jazz artist Poncho Sanchez and for internationally acclaimed four time GRAMMY Award-nominated artist and UNICEF spokesperson Angelique Kidjo.
In 2002 Rossio released her second CD, Nuit et Jour, a charming collection of jazz standards in French plus Cole Porter tunes de toutes les choses Parisiennes. The CD features internationally acclaimed Steinway recording artist Tom Grant on piano, Dave Captein (Randy Brecker, Mose Allison, Tal Farlow, Joey DeFrancesco) on upright bass, and Graham Lear (Gino Vannelli, REO Speedwagon, Santana, Paul Anka) on drums. Nuit et Jour was mastered by critically acclaimed recording engineer Bob Katz (Grammy award winner Paquito D''Rivera''s Portraits of Cuba on Chesky Records). Several different cuts from Nuit et Jour have been in regular rotation on KMHD 89.1fm - "The Jazz Station".
In October 1997 Rossio released her debut solo CD French Mix recorded both in Portland and Paris (a collaboration with Paris-based musician and composer Jim Cuomo comprised of folk rock/pop originals sung in French and English), and held her Paris CD release party at the infamous Café de Cluny in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Cuts from French Mix have been played on Portland area public radio stations OPB (91.5FM), KMHD (89.1FM) and KBOO (90.7FM).
Rossio has also performed in conjunction with a special traveling Smithsonian exhibit entitled “The Jazz Age in Paris”; at The United Nations and Boston Symphony Hall with the Paul Winter Consort and the Back Bay Chorale; at The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall with famed choral conductor Robert Shaw and the Choral Arts Ensemble; and as a soloist at The Jazz Cafe and Fox & Hound in Havana, Cuba; The Jazz Spot in Edinburgh, Scotland; Auberge du Soleil in Napa, CA; Rick’s Nightclub in Zihuatanejo, Mexico; Baiser Sale, Petit Journal Montparnasse, Café de Cluny and Petit Opportun in Paris and other spots throughout the U.S. and Europe. In Portland, Oregon, Rossio performs regularly with conductor Carlos Kalmar and the Oregon Symphony as a member of the Portland Symphonic Choir and at jazz clubs, wineries, wedding receptions and for private parties and corporate events.
