Details:
Davyd Chong started composing music seriously at the age of 16, after completing his Grade 8 in both Piano (1999) and Music Theory (2000) for the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). As a student of Victoria Junior College (VJC), he helped to pioneer its Piano Ensemble in 2000. Later, he took part in the VJC Music Festival 2001, a major event held annually by the College, and one of his first compositions "I''ve Lost You" successfully enabled him to clinch the 2nd prize in the "Creative Song Writing Category". This achievement became the impetus that led him to aspire towards realizing bigger dreams.

With added confidence, Davyd actively sought out platforms to showcase his compositions. In the following year, he took part in the Bethesda Chapel Eternity Talentime 2002, a local music competition open to the public, where he performed his highly acclaimed piece "Hopeless Tears". Against all odds, not only did he clinch the 2nd prize with his solo piano performance, he also secured the "Best Showmanship Award" for the event, beating over 15 bands and soloists selected as finalists for the competition. The audience''s response to his music encouraged him so deeply that he decided to cut an album on his own by the next year.

Hence, in 2003, Davyd produced his debut album entitled "Hopeless Tears" independently, and released it at the "Eighty-8" Concert organised by the VJC Piano Ensemble where he was invited to perform as an alumni. Ever since his debut, Davyd has won numerous awards for songwriting and composition, both at the national and international level, including the Channel NewsAsia Get Rea! Songwriting Competition in 2004. He recently did an orchestral remake of "Hopeless Tears" (which was performed in a Musical staged in London), and this piece also won 1st prize in The Met Opera Singing Contest 2007 organised by Golden Village Cinemas, partnered with Canon.
