JAZZ: Ballroom Dance, JAZZ: Bossa Nova

Details:
Frank Boyd grew up playing music. He began playing an harmonica when he was four (4) years old and at six started playing the fiddle. At eight he took up the guitar and used to accompany other fiddlers in their playing of old favorites. At thirteen he began to play the alto horn in a marching band. He later played this instrument as a substitution for an alto saxophone in a dance band. He later obtained an alto saxophone which he played for two semesters in a dance band. That summer he traded his alto for a tenor which for many years became his main instrument, along with the violin and trumpet.
Frank also taught the mandolin and played the glockenspiel in a marching band while in university.

He has directed several dance bands and combos over the years and has had a keen interest in ''Easy Swing'' jazz. This genre of music continues today to motivate intimate ballroom dancing. In addition Frank has played in several others dance bands/orchestras and played violin for a time in a symphony orchestra. One of his greatest thrills was once playing fiddle with a cajun group in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Frank has composed and arranged music most of which is related to the genre of ''easy swing''. Until now this music had remained unpublished largely because as a practising attorney he didn''t feel he had the time to do it. Besides until recently it was considered to be too time consuming and difficult dealing with some of the major record labels.

Towards the end of 2007, Frank although still a member of the Bar, decided to reduce his law practice and publish his music. This project got under way in early 2008.

Some of the music in this album will remind you of the great dance bands broadcasting on a Saturday night from a ballroom in a well known hotel, perhaps in New York city,Chicago, Los Angeles or even Toronto(remember The Casa Loma?)
This was indeed a golden age when there were direct feeds from some of the famous ballrooms to local radio stations and if you were a teen or even a pre-teen you might be still up, listening and dancing to some of this late night music

How about the piano and orchestra of Eddie Duchin or Charlie Spivak ( perhaps his theme song?- his orchestra went to air late every Saturday night) or Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadian( New Year''s Eve) or Benny Goodman, stomping at The Savoy?

If you like any of this music, then besides the songs in this album that are just for your listening pleasure, there are others that should get you up on the dance floor and make you believe you are in your very own ballroom.

It will be " THE MAKE BELIEVE BALLROOM " all over again.

The compositions in this album have the sheet music that was prepared when this music was composed and arranged. This may be obtained for a small fee to cover the cost of paper and printing.

We hope you enjoy this album. There will be more memories of swing time coming soon.

People who are interested in Fats Waller The Nat King Cole Trio Hoagy Carmichael should consider this download.
