On August 12, 1985, something special happened to the Johnson family as well as the city of Dothan, Alabama. A classic was born into the world by the name of William R. Johnson, soon to be globally introduced as. WILLIE. J. Ever since a babe, young WILLIE. J loved to listen to what die hard fans familiarize themselves with as true R&B, a.k.a. “old school”. Rhythm and blues icons such as Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Ottis Redding, Donnie Hathaway, and the Teddy Pendergrass Brothers penetrated the young star’s ears and heart ultimately cultivating a style he could one day call his own.
This infectious entertainer knew not of his vocal abilities (that have been previously brewed in his musically inclined genes) until the curious adolescent age of 13. It was then that he teetered with the musical aspect of his life with aggression. As the baby of 9 talented children, WILLIE. J had to find his own niche and grow up a lot sooner than most kids his age just to grasp the attention and respect of his elder siblings. Deemed to be an old soul well beyond his years, WILLIE. J found no hesitation in taking on that challenge. Not to mention personal hard times and the heartache of losing two brothers to say the least, can expedite the progression of a man out of a child. Unlike most youngsters his age, WILLIE. J was born without a shell. In fact, the now 22 year old has yet to find a shy bone to develop in his skeletal system. Considering that notion WILLIE. J became the life of the party at every family function and yard event held by his mother. He soon discovered his gravitational pull on reaching others as he imitates his old school crooning favorites as well as his humbling yet natural comedic persona. And like his childhood ear candy, WILLIE. J’ s southern Baptist, deep fried, back pew of the church vocal tones became the melting pot for captivated hearts of the opposite sex. For lack of better words………he’s a lady’s man.
WILLIE. J graduated from high school in the year of 2003 prophesized to be the most successful as well the best dressed of his class. With that good fortune in mind, he took his ambition and knack for fashion as well as his passion for music elsewhere. In the year 2004 Willie J., a.k.a. WILLIE. J enrolled himself into a fashion/business school by the name of Bauder College located in the fast paced and growing entertainment venue known as Atlanta, Georgia. 3 years later and only a semester left spare, WILLIE. J will be ready to graduate with his degree in business management. While juggling with his education, job, and writing sessions, the suave crooner kept his palate scarce and remained hungry for his longtime yearning for the limelight. Developing tough skin is mandatory for this cut throat industry and WILLIE. J has paid his dues through trial and error and disloyalty against him. His go getter attitude, will and perseverance, and dominance in stealing the spotlight is like a breath of fresh air to the lungs of this music industry’s listening ears. The experience is deep rooted passion. A gold soul with a heart of a champ. Poetic symbolism intertwined with a rhythm.
