MP3 Dave Aaronoff & The Protagonists - Dead Bird For Dinner
Kurt Weill meets Hank Williams at Heart Attack & Vine.
10 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Alt-Country, ROCK: Americana
"Dead Bird for Dinner" is the new 10-song CD by Dave Aaronoff and his new band, The Protagonists. Following the 2006 release of his album Into the Drink, Dave’s songwriting was taking a turn toward the dark side of country music, so he assembled a roots-based acoustic line up. Pedal steel and fiddle texture the songs, as do moody guitar and bluesy harmonica. Fran Betlyon, a stunning young singer was added as well to fill out the close Everly Brothers-style harmonies.
The album was recorded on a single afternoon, live in the home studio of Chris Cugini. It began as an experiment to see if a few songs could be record without overdubs, but the mood was right, and the entire album was recorded in just a few short hours. Some of the songs were being played for the very first time, capturing the spontaneous nature of the band. The songs draw from the well of old country music themes: murder, fugitives, lost souls, disasters at sea, and wanton nudity abound.
