“I began my musical career at four by giving an impromptu vocal recital during a visit to the library with my grandfather. He was not amused but my future was decided. Piano lessons followed and at my first recital I was so keen to share my newfound skills that I ran for the piano and fell flat on my face. To everyone’s surprise I jumped up and played perfectly - after all the show must go on. My show now includes harp, piano, guitar and vocal performances as well as composing, arranging and recording and recently I was actually invited to sing in a library!”

Moira began her musical education as a child with piano lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Music. By the age of twelve she had passed her Grade 10 piano examination and was performing her own compositions at concerts and recitals. Still in high school, Moira made her professional debut as a pianist with a jazz quartet and her studies broadened to include harmony, composition, voice, guitar and improvisation.

More recently, Moira began playing the harp, an instrument she had always dreamed of mastering. She is past president of the Toronto Chapter of the ISFHC (International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen) and plays a 36-string ‘Enchantress’ harp, which was custom designed and built for her in carbon/wood composite, by Roger Jubinville of ‘Tanelorn Design’. An unusually versatile artist, Moira performs regularly as a soloist and with her duo, trio and a cappella quartet. Classical training, a flair for composition and arrangement and an affection for many diverse musical genres have led to the development of her unique and elegant style.

“My first album, ‘Time Calls My Name’, was released in 1995 – before I started to play the harp. I wrote all but two of the pieces and I perform all of the instrumentals and vocals. This includes lead and back-up vocals, piano, classical guitar, keyboards and percussion. The style jumps around quite a bit – from an a cappella English traditional ballad in 3 part harmony featuring me, myself and I, to a jazz blues with me on piano, guitar, keyboard bass and drums. There are a couple of songs with a Celtic feel, a couple of blues numbers and, just for good measure, a flamenco guitar duet a la The Gipsy Kings. It’s rather like a musical smorgasbord! ‘After the Fall’, my second CD, was designed around a particular mood. The four instrumentals all feature the harp, which is also prominent in four of the eight songs. This time around, I decided that I wanted to add to the depth of my music by working with other musicians. How can I beat the sounds of a ‘real’ cello, a ‘real’ flute, ‘real’ percussion and
‘real’ vocal harmonies all performed by ‘real’ talented people – Elena Jubinville (cello and voice), Kathryn Moses (flute) and Rick Lazar (percussion). One of the few things the albums have in common is that each contains twelve pieces, ten of which are my own compositions.”

Moira''s music is gaining international recognition and "Moonfyre", one of her original harp solos, was selected to appear on a compilation released in Italy. Both of her CD''s have received worldwide sales and airplay.

“After releasing two albums of mainly original material, I began to realize just how strongly I have been influenced by my family roots in the British Isles. I’m thrilled to announce the arrival of my new CD, ‘Echoes of Another Time’ which includes some of my most requested Celtic and Traditional favourites and also introduces my latest original harp solo, ‘Through the Looking Glass’. I’m joined by Elena Jubinville (cello, voice, winds, guitar) who not only contributed her lovely music but also shared in the production and snapped the cover shot! We invite you to close your eyes, listen and journey to wherever the Echoes may lead.”
